Is it safe to use bug spray in my bedroom on a regular basis?

Posted by admin on September 17th, 2011

I saw a spider in my bed yesterday, so I sprayed bug spray in the corners of my room and around my bed. I cracked the window to get rid of the fumes so I wouldn’t be breathing that as I slept. Is it safe to spray it around my bedroom on a weekly to fend off spiders or is there something natural that works (I’m petrified of them!)?
I thought bug killer and bug spray was the same thing?

Will Flea Busters Powder also kill Bed Bugs?

Posted by admin on August 11th, 2011

OK, I have a bit of a bug phobia, and I have no idea how this could have happened, but I did buy new bedding about 4 months ago, and last Sunday I found 3 bugs that looked like bed bugs under my mattress!!!! Each one was like half the size of a bead, brown and flat. Of course, every piece of bedding went to wash in hot water, double dose of detergent, dryer for 90 minutes each batch, several day project.

Because of my phobia, I use Flea Busters’ Boric acid powder for maintenance cause it is effective in dehydrating bugs and it is safe and I have seen it kill spiders and roaches too. Pest control people say that bed bugs are a special breed and need special fumigating at the tune of 0!!

Does anyone know if Flea Busters Powder will kill a bed bug? I also read diotamecous earth will also kill bed bugs?

I also found a product called Bed Bug Powder, but I cannot find the product ingredient details to compare with Flea Busters to see if they are the same thing.

I read bed bugs have become a huge problem in the U.S., like in hotels…..that is why I have not traveled unless I can stay with family….the only thing I did different was buy a new mattress cover about 4 months ago and that is where I found the bug. It was packaged, but what if it was a return!!!

Since my bed is 8 years old, I am throwing it away, but I don’t know how long to wait before buying a new bed to ensure these things are gone before such an expense…. help!!!!

Help!

How do I get rid of bed bugs?

Posted by admin on May 16th, 2011

I have to do an internship to graduate and I found it in England, London more exactly. I have been renting a room in a flatshare since January 20th 2011.

I started to get bitten only a couple of days after I moved in. At first I thought it was like spiders bites or something. I kept being bitten every night. I started to tell about this around me and some people suggested that it might be bed bugs. I had never heard of this then. So I did some research and started to get concerned and try to convince myself that it was not this.

But this problem did not stop so I called my agency to ask for a new bed or if there was anything they could do. I had just been said to buy a spray. I was still hoping it could not be this.

Last Monday, my boyfriend slept with me and he got bitten in the middle of the night and killed the beast who bit him and he told me blood came out and that it was a bed bug. We called the agency and they told me today that they would get me a new bed today.

The thing is there is wooden furniture in the room and carpet on the floor so I am not sure just changing the bed will resolve the problem. And I am guessing now that my stuff (clothes, luggage) must be infested too. I have been bitten almost every night for three months now so most of my stuff must be infested.

I asked the agent to call a professional pest control and he said he would take care of this. But I don’t want the new bed to be infested in the meantime they inspect my room. I will have to wash all my clothes now and my luggage. I don’t want to bring this to France when I get home. Even though there will be a professional control in my room, well hopefully, I am still afraid that the problem won’t be resolved. I can’t just leave the room because I have not finished my internship and I will have to give one month notice before moving out but I don’t really feel like staying there now. Plus I can’t afford an expensive rent and the one I am paying right now is not too expensive and all the bills are included. I think I can’t find something which would be fairly decent for the same price.

Last night, I could not sleep and the lumps are really itchy. I already have some skin condition (Eczema) and the bites don’t help at all.

I am really afraid to bring those beasts to France. My sister is over for the week and we will have to be very careful I guess so she doesn’t bring them at home.

What should I do? How can I get rid of bed bugs for good?

Does it sound like I have bed bugs?

Posted by admin on January 20th, 2011

About a week ago I noticed a red bug bite on my stomach after waking up in the morning. It didn’t itch. About a week later, I noticed three red bug bites on my neck in the shape of a triangle. They don’t itch either.

Could I have bed bugs? Spiders? Or What?

how do you keep bugs out of your room/house?

Posted by admin on November 7th, 2010

I seem to have lots of bugs in my room and I can’t stand little things crawling around especially spiders. I was watching a movie and I spotted one right by my laptop and I freaked! I scratched up my arm really bad on the bed jerking it away. Ever since I saw pictures of racluse bites I’ve been freaked out. Don’t know if that’s how you spell it. But anyways I live in a very small dorm room and what do you guys recommend to get rid or kill most of them? Right now I use 4 sticky pads scattered around the room and I’ve caught a lot but I know there’s more. Please help this 6′3, adult, male, soldier deal with these tiny things!!!

Can you ignore bed bugs if they are moderate?

Posted by admin on September 25th, 2010

Over the last 3 weeks I have been waking up with bed bites on some days. However, I only get maybe 2-3 bites. I heard they generally bite before dawn. Considering this, if I woke up today with 3 bites on my back (which aren’t very itchy) after sleeping during the day could this be something different like small spiders? If the problem hasn’t gotten any worse and is tolerable is it likely that it will stay this way in the future? If this is case I’ll ignore the problem.

What else is the purpose of Fleas, Ticks and Bed Bugs besides making us or our pets miserable?

Posted by admin on September 1st, 2010

If they did something "useful" like eat crabgrass or weeds in the yard, or if they ate house spiders, silverfish, nats, flys, ants…..it’s kind of pathetic.

What is your opinions, thoughts and experiences with these pests. My mother told me that her mom use to brush the wood bed slats with egg whites and that kept the Bed Bugs away. She did this at the end of winter into early spring. Have you heard anything like that??

what kind of bugs can crawl into your bed besides bed bugs?

Posted by admin on July 21st, 2010

I have this red swollen bump on my stomach, It’s making me very nauseous and I get really sick. It’s itchy and really red. I have lots of headaches and I often feel very weak. I refuse to think this is the work of a "bed bug" because my symptoms are far more complex…It may be a spider, fact proven that I do in fact have spiders that infest my room from time to time. And if this is serious, will it affect me more since I am a teenager?

How to get rid of bugs without getting too close to them or having a specialist do it?

Posted by admin on April 22nd, 2010

Im almost positive there are bugs underneath my bed. I can hear them walking around under there. When we first moved in there were bugs in the basement(currently my bedroom) and they were huge. Centipedes, spiders, beetles, and other bugs were twice their size. I see a spider every now and then while im down there. I want to kill all of them but i think i would have a heart attack if one of them would come near me. I need something that will kill them fast. My bed is a twin with a storage space and thats where they are. Its exetremely disturbing to know they are down there and i want them dead.

Bed Bugs: Am I paying for an exterminator I don’t need?

Posted by admin on February 8th, 2010

We have a bed bug issue. When I found out several days ago I was totally disgusted and could hardly believe it happened to me!

I had noticed some bites on my son, a couple on my daughter, I’d get a few at night too, but my husband had none. At first I thought it was spiders because when we bought our house a year ago there were a lot of spiders and we ended up bombing the house to get rid of all of them.

But I saw one bed bug on my son’s bed in the early AM when I was getting him up for school. I left the lights dim while I was waking him so the nasty critter on the headboard had not hidden himself yet. I killed the bug and went on the internet where I was easily able to identify it as a bed bug. My husband and I stripped the kids beds and took the mattresses off (just for the record I change the sheets weekly). My kids have wooden beds. In the spaces between the wood and where the screws were on the beds we found them on my sons bed, it was disgusting. My daughters bed didn’t seem to have any but I did find a dead on on the floor under her bed (the exterminator said he saw egg sacks in the cracks of her bed). Our bed had three adults visible on the bottom, which I killed.

We called three exterminators and had them come out and give quotes. One said they would come out with a pesticide gas in three applications and charge us 0 (local company), another said they would use a freezing method with one application and charge us 0 (terminx), and the final one said they would use a steaming method with one application and charge us 00 (orkin). We decided to go with Orkin because the steam seemed like the best method and he seemed pretty confident he could kill them all with one application.

My husband and I were freaked so we took the kids mattress outside and put them in the garage, we also took apart their wooden beds (my husband took it apart and I steamed the bed and any bugs as he was doing it) then we wood the bed frames outside as well.

Our bed is still in our room but we haven’t slept on it. Our couch had no traces of bugs according to the exterminators so we left it in the living room. The used furniture we had in our family room we threw out just in case.

Tuesday & Wednesday night (we discovered them Tuesday morning), we bought an air mattress and slept in the family room (which is on the opposite side of the house as the bedrooms). Wednesday night something bit my ankle (only me). We moved our air mattress to the kitchen and slept there Thursday night. I woke up Thursday morning and something had bit my upper arm (only me). This whole time I had been emptying the bedrooms (without any help might I add since my husband had to work and my kids are too young to be of any help) and the exterminator couldn’t come until Monday. So I told my husband I couldn’t stand being here until they were gone so Friday I took the kids and went to a hotel where we had a good nights sleep. Then last night we stayed at my husbands parents house (don’t worry we were very careful not to bring anything with us).

Now I have been preparing for our extermination appointment on Monday this whole time which involves completely emptying the bedrooms of everything except the furniture. I have to rewash all the clothes that were in the dressers. Put all the kids toys and our possessions in plastic bags and take it out of the room until the treatment is done.

But here is my concern. I haven’t found any evidence of them being anywhere except in the beds (with exception of my son’s room I think they may have been in the guitar leaning up against his bed so i threw it out). I’ve inspected their toys, books, clothes as I’m throwing everything in bags and there is no evidence. There is no brown markings on any walls or baseboards.

I’m just worried I’m paying 00 for an extermination that I might not need. From cleaning the bedrooms it seems that as long as we either buy new mattress or put bed bug protection covers on the mattress they will be fine. I’ve already bought the kids new metal bed frames. But what makes me think we still need the extermination is the fact that I was bitten twice during the night in different rooms of the house. I know something bit me those two nights because I am allergic to bits from mostly anything, I had a white raised welt in the morning.

Anyone with experience with bed bugs please give me your opinion on this.

Getting rid of bed bugs?

Posted by admin on August 25th, 2009

I just woke up with little bugs crawling on me. I used What’sThatBug.com to identify them as bed bugs. I am terrified of little bugs that I can’t see at all times, such as bed bugs. I am fine with larger bugs and animals, large spiders, mice, etc. but I aboslutely hate bugs like these.

Could I hire a professional to kill them for me? How much would it cost?

Is this possibly a bed bug?

Posted by admin on July 9th, 2009

Hello everyone, I was wondering if you could help me. Just a little while ago I went to change my sheets, and found a tiny bug, that was brown, and looked like it had a reddish/black spot on it’s butt. It was attached to one of my heavier blankets, thankfully it was dead, or perhaps it was the exoskeleton? Could this possibly be a bed bug? The mattress is brand new, the blankets were from my old house, which I know was bug bed free. But the room I’m in right now is usually infested with lady bugs, flies and quite a few spiders too. So could there have been bed bugs in the room before I came? Also I have clothing hanging in my room, and some piled on my floor, if I have bed bugs should I wash all the clothing that is near the bed, also?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I currently have the hibbie Jibbies majorly now. As if all the other bugs weren’t enough. I would have posted a picture but the bug is too tiny to photograph in the baggie it’s in, and I’m not touching it. :D

Thanks for any help.

I’ve checked wiki and google, I’d just like another opinion, suffice to say, I’m sleeping on the downstairs couch tonight.
I should mention that I’m a teenager, living at home, so moving, spraying isn’t up to me. :D
