Have seen one bed bug 2 months ago, no signs of them now?

Posted by admin on May 24th, 2011

I moved to the new furnished apartment at the end of January. The first night there, I saw a bed bug. It looked exactly like one on the pictures. What strange about it, is that it was around 11 pm and all the lights were turned on when the beg came out. I freaked out and called my landlord immediately. The next day the exterminator came and inspected the mattress. He didnt find any signs of bed bugs, but sprayed the whole apartment anyway. Since then, I have never had any bites ( I didnt even have them the first night) and never seen any blood on the sheets or any other signs. My bf stayed over couple of times, but didnt have any bites either.
Its april now and I was sure that they magically disappeared until my friend told me today that some ppl might get bitten for months and never have any visible bites. She also told me that poison never kills them and if I saw one in January, I might still have them. Help!!!! Im freaking out!!!
Is it possible I have them and me and my bf dont get any reaction? Did I have them in the first place? Is it possible that there was only one bed bug living in the apartment and when I killed it, there were none left?

How can I get rid of these small bugs in my room?

Posted by admin on April 29th, 2011

They are NOT bed bugs, they are active in the daytime and there are no signs of bugs on my mattress. No matter how many I kill, I always find more the next day on my window sill and a few on my bed sometimes. They are black, very small, with what looks to me like white stripes? They are quite furry, I mean they have white hair. I have no idea where they are coming from but I cannot even be comfortable in my own room anymore, how can I get rid of them for good? My father refuses to call the exterminator -___-

How can I make sure there aren't bed bugs in my luggage?

Posted by admin on February 23rd, 2011

I’m on a business trip and one of the guys in our hotel had bed bugs in his room. We are switching hotels tomorrow morning. I’ve searched my room and I haven’t found any signs of bugs. I am going to wash all my clothes before we go, but how can I make sure my luggage is clean?

There was a long skinny bug on pants that I had laid out a couple days ago, but I haven’t seen any other bugs or signs of anything since.

What are these tiny ant-like biting insect in my bed?

Posted by admin on January 21st, 2011

I bought a new mattress about 3 weeks ago and just a few days ago I noticed these tiny ant like (but not ants) bugs with black wings in my bed. I only see them one at a time and they are only on the bed, nowhere else in the house.

They are about a half a centimeter long, very skinny, black, have segments like an ant but the last segment is really long. They also have black wings but I’ve never seen them fly. They’re really fast so I end up just killing them before I can get a picture.

I’ve checked my kids and had my husband check me for any signs of lice, fleas, etc. Nothing. They look nothing at all like fleas, mites, bed bugs or lice.

I live in Texas if that makes any difference. Any idea what these are or how to kill them? I’m chemically sensitive so any advice on debugging a bed naturally?

I’ve already called the mattress store. It’s one of the major chains who claim to be "experts" if you catch my drift. They said it’s too late for them to help. Maybe something laid eggs that are just now hatching?

Are bed bugs a proper reason to move out of NYC?

How do I trap bed bugs with Vaseline?

Posted by admin on October 10th, 2010

I don’t have a bed frame, so my bed doesn’t have any legs. It’s just a box spring and a mattress. Do I coat the Vaseline around my box spring?

I haven’t seen any obvious signs of bed bugs (no blood spots, feces, or eggs so far), but I’ve been getting itchy red spots after waking up in the morning for the past 3 days.

Any tips on how to catch/trap these little suckers would be greatly appreciated.

Bed Bugs, A Nightmare, Please help!?

Posted by admin on July 22nd, 2010

In May, my youngest son attended a camp for three weeks. When he came home, unintentionally he brought home a little surprise. I obviously had no idea for a while why he was receiving bites all over his body, I just brushed it off as misquotes. As time progressed I started receiving bites and my other son also started getting bitten up. I was still completely confused until one day I was laying in bed and saw something crawling on me. I obviously killed the bug but had no idea what it was so, I did my Google homework. I basically found out this bug was a Bed Bug. Once I learned what it was I inspected the mattress and my son’s was completely infested. I ended up throwing it out because it was so badly infested. I also inspected my mattress in which I only found one bug and only like 3 small blood stains. I vacuumed it very well and put it in a bed bug vinyl bag (bed and box spring). luckily my eldest sons bed did not show any signs of infestation but i vacuumed it anyway and also put it in a bag (bed and box spring). Also before even moving my sons new mattress into the house i encased it in a bag. The thing is, I still see them sometimes, on the bathroom floor and I know my sofa’s are infested. If anyone sits on them they get bitten. I don’t know what to do. It’s a brand new living room set, that I payed close to 2,000 dollars for. As a single mother living on a Nursing Assistants incoming, I honestly can’t afford to throw it away. Yet, I can’t afford to hire a professional. I called around and it’s 1,000 dollars, and most companies said it will probably take multiple treatments. I spent my entire day crying my eyes out. I don’t know what to do. I can’t live like this. I feel like a pig. I mean I’m going to try to rid myself of the problem but It’s already cost me close to 1000$ between replacing the mattress and box spring, buying bags for the beds, and buying the "good night" spray at home depo. I’m going to spray my sofa’s in this spray which seems to work really well (it’s non toxic and can be used directly on fabric). Then I bought foggers, I’m going to fog the entire house. Then I’m going to cover my sofa’s in plastic, with a staple gun and put sofa slip covers over them. I don’t know what else to do. I feel so helpless. Do you think this will work? I plan to launder the covers every week and do regular vacuuming of baseboards. I also plan on fogging once more. Anyone experienced these horrible little bugs? What did you do? Advice, is more then welcomed!

Btw. How can I avoid my eldest son bringing them to college with him. I’m so worried in the fall he will bring them to college with him.

How bed bug infested do you think i am?

Posted by admin on May 27th, 2010

so a few days ago i had 3 bites on my arm, the first bites i EVER noticed. i saw no signs of bugs. last night me and my mom stripped my bed (cause we’re really OCD) and found 5 baby bed bugs and one adult, which freaked us out, cause i have only been bit the one time. today we threw everything on my bed in the dryer for an hour, vacuum my bed and emptying the vacuum, and are spraying everything with this bed bug spray we bought at some bed bug store. do you think this will be enough to kill the eggs- as we think there must only have been the pregnant mom and then she laid eggs and thats why we found so many babies at one time cause they just hatched?.. idk, what do you think- were freaking out!

should this be good enough to get rid of this infestation?

Posted by admin on April 17th, 2010

i found bed bugs on my mattress and bed frame last night, so today i went out and bought a couple cans of otc lice/bed bug spray and sprayed all over the carpet around my bed, mattress, frame, head board, and walls with the spray. lets say i soaked everything, and i have a bunk bed so i sprayed everything up there too. but i didn’t see any signs of bugs up there, i don’t think they woudl be on top though cause no one has slept up there in years.
i even threw away my pillows that i sleep on every night.

i am not, at least not planning on gettin rid of the mattress. don’t know if they’re gone yet, but does this sound good enough to you?

and yes i washed the sheets in hot water.

Do I have bed bugs or just an allergic reaction?

Posted by admin on November 26th, 2009

Today I noticed two irritating welts on my back. they were right next to eachother. I have an irritated rash on my hand to. This started after I put this cheap thermal blanket I had yet to open on my bed. They had been packaged for a year, and my stupidity didnt wash them. Ive been researching bed bugs signs, and inspected my bed. I didnt see any blood nor did I see signs of bed bugs. Could I just be having an allergic reaction to those sheets? Or do I have a bed bug problem?

Blood test for allergens indicates that my 8 yr old male neutered JRT is allergic to dust mites.?

Posted by admin on October 12th, 2009

The vet recommended immunotherapy ie home vaccination done by me to help him overcome the allergy, signs of which are constant paw licking and body itch. Vaccination is on a slow decreasing frequency for 1 month, followed by maintenance shots every month for 1 yr. Has anyone’s dog had similar allergy and tried immunotherapy? If so, what was the outcome and did the dog recover from his dust mite allergy eventually? Thanks.

Could it be bed bugs or what?

Posted by admin on August 25th, 2009

This morning and yesterday my son woke up with what appear to be insect bites. They itch and are red; one was puffy after he scratched it. He is the only one in the house getting these.

So I took the blankets and sheets off his bed and inspected the bedding, mattress, floor and baseboards around the area. I did find one small insect–very small and not like the pictures I’ve seen of bed bugs. It was maybe 1/8 inch long, elongated and brown in color. That was all I could find. I didn’t see any blood or rusty stains on the sheets.

Ugh. I’m almost vomiting here at the thought that there might be bed bugs or something. To my questions:

Can bed bugs be passed by casual contact? We haven’t been anywhere overnight or had any company. My son did get a used stuffed animal that he took to bed with him! (crap) That was a couple weeks ago. Can he pick them up from the kids at school?

If it was bed bugs, wouldn’t I find them on the mattress or sheets or somewhere around the bed? Like I said, it was just that one and it didn’t appear to be a bed bug.

Something is obviously biting him at night. What else could it be, if not bed bugs? What else should I look for for signs of anything?

So I’m going to wash his bedding and vacuum the room really good. What else should I do? Take him to the doctor? Call an exterminator?

Oh, I seriously have the heebie jeebies! :) Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated.
No chickens. We do have a cat that’s strictly an indoor cat. We’ve had him for years and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have fleas, but it’s something to check into. Thanks a lot. I made a doctor’s appointment for tomorrow.

how do you know if you have bed bugs?

Posted by admin on August 17th, 2009

i need to know if I have bed bugs before I really freak out. I’ve been getting bitten, once last night, once two nights before, a few times a few weeks ago. i assumed they were mosquito bites, but reading up on bed bugs… that’s what they may be. they only itch when i scratch them or my clothes rub up against them, that’s why i put cortizone and covered them with bandaids.

i just vacuumed every inch of my bed, washed the sheets and comforter and pillowcases. i saw a round brown thing on the box spring which looked like the picture of a bed bug (which i never want to see again), but i vacuumed it up. what should I do next? my room is pretty cluttered so i’m working on cleaning it up, i’ve just read horror stories of these things living in the cracks in the floor and the baseboards and stuff. what do i do next? i’m not positive i have them but the signs point to yes. should i get some mattress covers and new pillows? is there even any point? what do i do?

Has anyone seen what a just-hatched bed bug looks like?

Posted by admin on June 25th, 2009

How small is a freshly hatched bed bug? We’re worried about an infestation but haven’t seen any signs of them yet. We did, however, see a very tiny bug crawl across a pillow of mine (it had been stored in the closet.) It was smaller than a millimeter, rather long/oval in shape, and rather opaque. We couldn’t make out details like if it had wings or antennae before we lost sight of it.

Most pictures of baby bed bugs I’ve seen show them being more round than elongated, but I don’t know if these pictures are of truly just-hatched bugs or not. Anyone seen an incredibly young bedbug before and can describe it to me?
