Will Flea Busters Powder also kill Bed Bugs?

Posted by admin on August 11th, 2011

OK, I have a bit of a bug phobia, and I have no idea how this could have happened, but I did buy new bedding about 4 months ago, and last Sunday I found 3 bugs that looked like bed bugs under my mattress!!!! Each one was like half the size of a bead, brown and flat. Of course, every piece of bedding went to wash in hot water, double dose of detergent, dryer for 90 minutes each batch, several day project.

Because of my phobia, I use Flea Busters’ Boric acid powder for maintenance cause it is effective in dehydrating bugs and it is safe and I have seen it kill spiders and roaches too. Pest control people say that bed bugs are a special breed and need special fumigating at the tune of 0!!

Does anyone know if Flea Busters Powder will kill a bed bug? I also read diotamecous earth will also kill bed bugs?

I also found a product called Bed Bug Powder, but I cannot find the product ingredient details to compare with Flea Busters to see if they are the same thing.

I read bed bugs have become a huge problem in the U.S., like in hotels…..that is why I have not traveled unless I can stay with family….the only thing I did different was buy a new mattress cover about 4 months ago and that is where I found the bug. It was packaged, but what if it was a return!!!

Since my bed is 8 years old, I am throwing it away, but I don’t know how long to wait before buying a new bed to ensure these things are gone before such an expense…. help!!!!

Help!

I have bed bugs and am moving, however how to remove them from stuffed animals?

Posted by admin on May 21st, 2011

We’ve had bed bugs for a little over two months and only identified them last month.
We decided to move out of the apartment and take precautions -
washing everything in hot water, drying them, freezing things.
However, we still have yet to bring over things like stuffed animals.
I’m concerned there may be bugs inside them, would washing and drying them in hot temperatures as well as keeping them outdoors in freezing weather help?

I think i have bed bugs, help?

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2011

For a while, every time I would lay down to go to bed I would itch uncontrollably. I began to think that maybe I had bed bugs, though I had no bites. Not long after that I saw a tiny little brown bug in my room. I killed it and told my family that I thought that maybe there were bed bugs in my room. They didn’t believe me and said that I was crazy. After that, I washed all of my linens and curtains an dvacuumed my box spring and mattres. I haven’t been itchy at night for a long time now but yesterday I discovered three bites on my legs. They aren’t near each other or in rows like most bed bug bite pictures I have seen. I just checked my mattress and box spring and didn’t come across anything too suspicious. No dead bugs or anything like that. There are some stains on the box spring but I’m not sure if they are bed bug stains. I vacuumed the box spring and mattress again and am washing everything in hot water as I type this. I also sprayed the bed with lysol and have my bedroom window open. I keep my room pretty clean and haven’t stayed in any hotels as of late so I don’t know how I could have gotten them. I’m not sure what to do since my family doesn’t believe, me I can’t call an exterminator.

How many chemicals does it take to kill bed bugs?

Posted by admin on December 28th, 2010

I just want to know. I thought about tide, rubbing alcohol, lysol, windex, bug spray, etc. I wonder if a combinations of lysol and windex or tide with Clorox beach or any of it could kill them. I also would like to know if washing dark and delicate clothes (as well pinks) with hot water would be a good idea (I usually do that with my whites) because I heard that hot water will kill them. And should I wash my clean clothes just in case? I’d like to know if I should wash my mattress as well as my bed spring and bed frame, cover it up for a year, or to toss it. Anyway, my hair and my skin have been itching for over a week and I stand it anymore. Even if I take a shower, it still itches and it seems like welts and rashes on my body. What should I do to stop the itching? What products should I use to stop the itching of my hair and skin?

Bug bites!!!!!! HELP!!!! please?

Posted by admin on September 17th, 2010

My mom has been getting bitten in lots of different places by what we think are bed bugs. She’s been bitten where her arm folds when she flexes her arms, her belly button, her sides, etc. We’ve tried a bunch of different bed bug sprays and powders, but she’s still getting bitten! My father MAY be getting bitten, but he hasn’t said anything about it, and my brother used to get bitten but doesn’t as much anymore. I haven’t gotten bitten yet… Anyways, my mom is really distressed by these bed bugs and we don’t know how to get rid of them!

Additional Info: We have three bedrooms, my parents have a walk-in closet, we have an entry room, a living room, and a kitchen and dining room that are all connected with no doors, and a family room, a laundry room, three small bathrooms, and a garage. Also, we have a cockatiel and two mice, if that has anything to do with this mysterious biting thing. Help is appreciated! Thanks!
BTW, we already soaked everything in hot water, vacummed, washed, sprayed, powdered – everything we could think of!!!!!

They are NOT bed bugs or fleas (I know what those look like). These bugs are about the size of or slightly smaller than the printed letter…i They can jump and apparently do not bite as I have no bites. I have washed everything in hot water and vacuumed everything thoroughly. At any given time, I can find 3-5 crawling around on the sheets. Any ideas???

should this be good enough to get rid of this infestation?

Posted by admin on April 17th, 2010

i found bed bugs on my mattress and bed frame last night, so today i went out and bought a couple cans of otc lice/bed bug spray and sprayed all over the carpet around my bed, mattress, frame, head board, and walls with the spray. lets say i soaked everything, and i have a bunk bed so i sprayed everything up there too. but i didn’t see any signs of bugs up there, i don’t think they woudl be on top though cause no one has slept up there in years.
i even threw away my pillows that i sleep on every night.

i am not, at least not planning on gettin rid of the mattress. don’t know if they’re gone yet, but does this sound good enough to you?

and yes i washed the sheets in hot water.

How many times a week should you wash/re-wash clothes/linens if you have bed bugs and an exterminator?

Posted by admin on December 24th, 2009

We found out we had bed bugs pretty quickly. We got an exterminator and he will come every 2 weeks a total of 3 more times. In the meantime, I have washed linens, clothes, etc. in hot water and bleach or ammonia and in hot dry. We’ve been fine up until this morning when I woke up with a huge bite on my arm. I am going to wash the linens on the futon (we moved into the LR) and the clothes that are sitting out, but should I be washing my clothes and stuff every 3 days? I know I am vacuuming a lot. anyone have any ideas?

Can bed bugs live in your television, computer or stereo?

Posted by admin on November 15th, 2009

We are moving to a new (bed bug free) apartment in a few days from a pretty severely infested older apartment. We do NOT want to bring these horrible things with us. We are not bringing any furniture. Just our clothes (which will be washed in hot water before hand), our dvds and tapes and our electronics. I know how to treat everything else, but not the electronics. Help!?!?!? If I leave my computer outside overnight in the cold (wrapped in plastic of course) is there a chance it won’t work? I really need some answers!

Thanks,
Sam

How do I get rid of bed bugs?

Posted by admin on October 8th, 2009

Could anyone suggest some ways to get rid of the bed bugs that have invaded my clothes in the closet? They were initially in the bedroom and I thought had disappeared after pest control treatment. But they have only migrated to the closet. I will continue to follow the pest control treatment and washing of clothes in hot water as I saw in recommendations. But I need some effective measures to really be rid of them for good. Will appreciate good answers.

Bed bugs killed in dryer for more than 100 minutes at high setting?

Posted by admin on September 5th, 2009

So after travelling through europe for three weeks in hostels, the very last hostel we stayed at was infested with bed bugs. I only saw about three bugs, but I’m sure there are plenty hiding in the mattresses – after seeing all the bites on my body.

When I got home I sealed all my belongings in bags and kept it in the garage. I had clothes ready in bags to throw into the washing machine (hot water). After the wash I put them in the dryer for 60 minutes on the highest setting. I decided to put it for another 50 minutes on high just to be sure there are no bugs. Is this enough to kill the bed bugs? I hope I don’t bring them into my room…

and as for my backpack I haven’t cleaned it yet, it’s still sealed. I was thinking of pouring hot boiling water all over the bag and also scrubbing zippers and crevices with soapy water, and more boiling water. Is this enough?

We have bed bugs… How do we get rid of them without hurting the kids or the dogs?

Posted by admin on August 23rd, 2009

My girlfriend found dead bed bugs after we had been getting bitten at night. She vacuumed, washed the bedding in hot water, dryed bedding in hot dryer, and sprayed isopropyl alcohol on everything in the bedroom. It seemed as if they were gone and then POOF 5 months later here they are again. What can be used to kill them without hurting the dogs or the kids???? Are there any ONE TIME USE products out there?

Will Freezing Weather kill bed bugs?

Posted by admin on July 10th, 2009

I just put my mattress and box spring outside on my deck (it is about 29 – 31 degrees F out right now), while we are washing our sheets and bedding on hot water/high heat dry. We are also vaccuming like crazy. Any bed bugs we may have missed, will the cold kill them? and if so, how long should we leave our stuff out there (an hour, a day, a week?!?!?)

I’ve read a few places that putting your furnitre out in the freezing weather for a "period of time" will help kill begbugs, but what the heck is a period of time???

Serious answers only, please!
But How Long to leave it out?

How can I find and get rid of bed bugs?

Posted by admin on June 6th, 2009

I have bed bugs. I get multiple bites on my hands almost every night.

I have enclosed the boxspring with a latex cover, but the bites continue. I've sprayed with Home Depot insecticide, which says on the bottle that it kills bedbugs. I've sprayed every inch of my bedroom with this junk, multiple MULTIPLE times, including spraying the mattress. I've also done the routine of washing all bedding in hot water (I do it just about weekly).

I've spent so much money on this, it's ridiculous, from replacing pillows to paying exterminators to buying mattress enclosures. Do I really have to just accept that insects dine on my blood nightly and smear it on my sheets as they depart? Do I have to move and trash all furniture and belongings? Should I go to bed in a beekeeper's suit? What's a guy to do?
