I have bed bugs in my apartment this is the first time i ever have this its annoying i cannot afford an exterminator and my landlord thinks its too much to pay for i have talked to her about this issue millions of times in the last month and she refuses to help! just four days ago i started using my own home remedies i got the iron and started ironing all my mattress and carpet! in the room the steam helped a lot i haven’t gotten bit but i’ve been steaming in everyday i threw away clothes bagged up all the shoes sprayed hot shot on them and closed it my clothes i haven’t done because i don’t have enough money to wash every clothing item and what not i threw out some furniture that was inside the room. Today i am doing the living room i took out my center table and the chairs my dinner table and chairs sprayed them also and I’m gonna do the couch and leave it outside as well gonna try to iron the whole carpet in the living room…. there’s another room too but i cant clean that one as much as i would like to cause we rented but its seems like ever since that person moved in we got this issue i try to clean it when that person is not here but its impossible i wish i could just throw everything in that room away! I’m frustrated i can take it anymore i wanna runaway haha but anyways has anyone used any of their own home remedies and how have you gotten rid of those filthy bugs and cheap products you guys recommend or anything please help!

I threw out the infested mattress last week, and I sprayed everything with the bully bed bug spray. I vacuumed so much my carpet looks brand new. I’ve checked furniture and everything. Last nite I was awake and killed about 10 big ones. what more can I do?

I was just curious to know if dust mites are on me, or simply on my furniture, and if they are on me, how many are there on average at a given time, and why don’t I feel them as they eat my skin? Hi everyone I wanted to let anyone who is dealing with these critters a way to kill them I haven’t had a problem with them for a month. Now its kill on contact so you actually have to see the bug and spray it or the eggs. Do this for about a week I know it is time consuming but it worked for me.
get rubbing alcohol obviously it depends on how big your house is and how much furniture you have on how much you need to buy.
Spray the nests that are probably on the underside of your bed or chair or couch. you’ll need to vacuum your bed and if your bed has a design on it vacuum the design as well go around every crease every crack. Use Vaseline on and wood parts near the floor like the legs. These bus will not cross a Vaseline barrier. Then clean out any clutter you have. Throw your clothes ALL of them in the dryer for 30 minutes, not at one time. Just do a normal load and put it in on high heat. hang them when they come out of the dryer. spray all your furniture where you have seen a bug vacuum it. Vacuum around your base boards, then tape or block off all unused plug ins and light sockets. Bag your bed in a bed bag or if you can’t afford one use plastic wrap. This worked for me. Just try it before you think I am crazy.

I don’t buy used clothing or furniture, or live in an apartment, but I am terrified that I will pick them up somewhere…a movie theatre, taxi, hotel, workplace, public transportation…etc.

I am very worried that someone in my family will pick them up while traveling (my sister travels A LOT) and bring them into our home. I am flying out of town in a couple months to visit family and am scared of picking them up in an airplane.

Does anyone else have these concerns? What do you do to remedy the situation?

Someone on my sister’s floor had bed bugs and they some how migrated to her apartment. Although she is getting her apartment sprayed she wants to throw out her furniture but doesn’t know if she has to have the furniture treated before doing so. My mother has them in her apartment and I seemed to have bought them with me to my own apartment. About two weeks ago i noticed 5 bites in one particular area on my ankle. Thought it was just an allergic reaction to something. Then two days later i saw 6 more bites on the same leg. By then i was thinking i could have bed bugs. After this incident, i have not been bitten for a few days. Today, i finally saw one crawling in my sheets. Could this be the only one that has been biting me and not my husband? have considered the fact that i do visit my mother’s apartment frequently, the fact that i only got the bites and my husband has not, and that they are only in my room. Could i just have a few? maybe the one i found today and killed was the main one that bit me

As for exterminating them, i have gotten plastic covers for my mattress, put my clothes in plastic bags and will be cleaning my entire room with Clorox, including my mattress.
i forgot to mention that
i moved this new apartment in a new house a 1 yr ago and have only noticed the bed bug for about 2 weeks. Since its a new apartment i don’t have much furniture in my room except a wooden tv stand, a tv, and a closet that has sliding wooden doors.

My mom-in-law rented a living room set from rent-a-center, it was infested with those nasty bedbugs. I could have sworn my house had dust mites because my room never gets vacuumed the humidity and temperature are usually high and I’m always sneezing.So I bought a 10x microscope so I could see how bad it was but when I looked at my mattress and furniture I couldn’t see anything does this mean that my house doesn’t have dust mites.Over the winter months the humidity drops to about 45% could this have eliminated them?

I was living in an apartment complex that had bed bugs and I was unaware of it. The infestation started in the apartment below us I was told. That apartment got sprayed for bugs and then they came up to my apartment. I was never told of the infestation or to keep an eye out for bugs, until it was too late. At first I thought I was allergic to the detergent i was using cause I thought I was breaking out in hives. I changed my bed sheets and detergent and the itchy didn’t stop.

A month goes by and I happen to be talking to some other tenants in my building and they told me they had bed bugs and were treated for them already. I started looking around and found that my mattress had blood stains on it and i started seeing the bugs. My mattress had to be thrown out and they eventually spread throughout the apartment. We had to get rid of our two couches as well as my queen size mattress.

We got the complex to spray our apartment and the surrounding ones and we had to bag up all our stuff and take it to get cleaned. I ended up spending at a laundromat plus the cost of the mattress and two couches we had to throw away. I slept on an air mattress and was still getting bit. They were supposed to spray 3 times but they only came twice and I was still finding the bugs; in my filing cabinet,dressers, walls, covers, etc.

We decided to break our lease because the problem was not being fixed, we also had roaches and a mice problem as well. Our apartment was not dirty and we cleaned a lot but the insects still came even after the treatments. They were in the walls and just moved from apartment to apartment. I spent 3 months with beg bug infestation, having to worry about having people over, going to others apartments, I didn’t want them to spread. I always washed my clothes and sheets just to be safe but nothing worked.

Eventually we moved to a different complex, we had to wash every piece of fabric and check all the furniture. So that is where I am now, a different apartment complex and I’ve found 4 bugs already. I have gotten bit a few times and I found one in my clarinet case the other day. I have no idea how they traveled with us but they did. I don’t know what to do because I don’t know who is responsible. Are we going to get blamed for bringing them in, or is the old complex responsible for not getting rid of the problem. I don’t want them to spread to other tenants apartments but I’m not sure if I should tell my new apartment complex or get a private exterminator. Any suggestions or stories would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone. If I get a private exterminator how much would it cost? Also, would it be reasonable to ask the old complex to pay for it? Or at least the money we lost?

We have had an exterminator at our house 3 times now and I am still being bit. My mother-in-law is convinced that they are only upstairs because the exterminator told her that they wouldn’t travel down stairs. Most of the time my welts appear when I’m sitting on furniture in the living room. How do you get rid of them? Obviously, extermination is not the answer. I used the HOT SHOT Bedbug and Flea spray but a person told me they will wake up again after seven days and then start biting me and that I have to freeze them and change all the bed which would be the best solution, please advice best solution to get rid of bugs
So, the Bedbugs can only be Controlled and not Fully Killed ?, if I have to do a Full Cleaning, of the entire apartment, it may not be possible, because this is a big house with about 8 rooms, the others who live in other rooms don’t have any problems…its just my room, esp my bed….Is there a way the pesticide company will fully kill them ?
I am planing on buying a new matress for myself, there is a big dent in the mattress through which bugs of a bigger size go in and out I guess, I sprayed inside the vent as well….however the bed is an old rut, I will definitely buy a new one…..now I found out from the guy living downstairs that he has this problem too ! now they pass through the walls and can live forever this way….I have called the Pest Control center Ehrlich and they said they can’t tell me the cost now, they will do a free inspection tomorrow and let us know what can be done…..Ideal thing am assuming would be to clean the Entire house through them….and then buy new Matress, get rid of all the furniture that guy has put in this room, cos they might be hidden anywhere….but that owner has to agree to pay to the Pesticide Company for Cleaning and Servicing…

I just moved into a new apt about a week ago. I’ve been sitting in bed recently and find these tiny bugs that jump. They are very fast and almost impossible to get ahold of to kill. I know they are not bed bugs and I don’t think they are fleas because I don’t have pets nor have I been around any. Also, the apt just got brand new carpet and all of my furniture is brand new. Iv’e tried bombs for bed bugs repeatedly. Bed bug spray i bought online. Bed bug spray from home depot. Washed every porous item on hot water, threw out ALL my furniture and moved to a different apartment in my building ( that last one was my landlords "remedy for the problem") AND STILL they bite me. We are moving to a new (bed bug free) apartment in a few days from a pretty severely infested older apartment.We do NOT want to bring these horrible things with us. We are not bringing any furniture. Just our clothes (which will be washed in hot water before hand), our dvds and tapes and our electronics. I know how to treat everything else, but not the electronics. Help!?!?!? If I leave my computer outside overnight in the cold (wrapped in plastic of course) is there a chance it won’t work? I really need some answers!

Alright, as many of us are aware, in the past few years, bed bugs have been on the rise in epidemic proportions in America. Unfortunately for me, I have them. Yeah, it’s gross.
I’m sure it’s bed bugs, I’ve done tons of research, and seen/killed them on my bed.
On the internet, websites suggest to keep the area clean and free of clutter, but that wont help me because my area is absolutely spotless. I barely have furniture! And I am the living anti-clutter. Anyways…

The websites say that the University of Florida have come up with the simple idea of using a controlled heat evironment containing the affected furniture.
But that got me to thinking. Experts also say that putting your clothes in the dryer will give off enough heat to kill the bugs.
So… why not just crank up the heat in the house?

And I don’t mean just turn on the heat.
Monday is going to be 100 degrees here. What if I turned the A/C off and turned the heat on? All the way, with the fan on, so it will continue to blow even after the thermostat reaches 100 degrees. I’m throwing my bed away, too. Obviously, this poses some kind of risk, right? I guess I can unplug almost everything, and take out all of the aresol cans and things of melty nature. Is this really a bad idea or am I really thinking the right way? I have no idea if I’m crazy due to just wanting to get rid of them so badly and avoiding the rental office and exterminator drama that will ensue at my apartment, or if this can actually work and I’m somewhat smart. =)

So I guess to sum up my questions, I want to know if you guys think it will work, and if you guys think it’s totally safe or unsafe.

Tony, if you had read what I wrote, you would have found that I am throwing away my whole bed. And what do you even mean by, "you cant get rid of bed bugs". Simply throwing the bed away isn’t going to get rid of them, I don’t know what YOU think. But, anyhow, what I wrote really wasn’t that long, and if it seems long to you, then you’re not the kind of person I want even answering my question anyway.
Steven, that is kind of what I feared. You’re right… the air might be unbearable, but the actual walls and furniture and such probably wont get that hot. …. =/

I just moved into a new apartment about 2 months ago and have found bed bugs in there. I haven’t been in any hotels, or have had many people over, and my furniture is new so I know the bugs came from the apartment. Is it the apartments responsibly to get rid of them? I learned I am allergenic to the saliva of the bugs and break out in hives, so I cannot even stay there while the bugs are there, would they also need to take $$ off my monthly rent or put me in a hotel. I think I may have bed bugs in my house. Initially, I thought they were fleas, but the bites seem to mostly come at night. I can’t find any physical evidence of having fleas or bed bugs (as far as stains on the furniture, mattress, etc.), and I haven’t seen EITHER of these bugs to prove they’ve actually infested my home. I only have the bites.

I’m hoping to find a non-toxic solution, if possible. Any advice is much appreciated, though.

See we had bedbugs last year. We got it from our neighbor.
You don’t think I know that to call the exterminator. Not only they came once but twice. Throwing furniture is not going to work, they can still hide in the cracks Its not our fault we have bedbugs, our neighbor was infested with them, there are like hundred of them in their apartment. (I am not kidding). After that the whole floor is infested with bedbugs. We got rid of it by ourselves; we were bedbugs free for eight months.
Bedbugs travel from one apartment from another. They hide someone else while the exterminator do there stuff, few days later they back again. Yesterday I saw the exterminator came to one of my neighbor and she is infested with bedbugs. Guess where the bedbugs go? My apartment!
I searched online that boric acid will help and to cover cracks.
