I have bugs in my bed, what are they?

Posted by admin on August 6th, 2009

I have look up bed bugs and lice pictures and that’s not what these are. I am not getting any bite from them that I have noticed, but I don’t want to sleep with them!! They are long and skinny kind of worm like, they squish easy, and roll in a ball when caught. What might they be? They are tiny, about a millimeter long.

It’s so gross!!
yeah aaaaaarrrgghghh!!!!!, Iv’e been sleeping with these things!!
I’m sleeping on the couch tonight!!
They aren’t sow bugs, I know what those look like. these are about the tenth of the size of a sow bug.
Sri V, your link doesn’t work
I think I figured it out! I forgot to mention I have pets, who have fleas, and my dog sleeps on the end of my bed. I am 99% sure they are flea larvae. Very gross. I am getting my dog some frontline today and bombing my entire house. Thanks for all the help and suggestions!

Carpet beetle or Bed Bug Larvae?

Posted by admin on July 29th, 2009

Ok so Im kindof really freaked out. I have two cats, and for the past couple of nights if been getting itchy spots when I lay down in my bed…and it was only when they were around. So I assumed they had brought fleas in and since its winter they might be hiding out somewhere. So i started to look around to make sure i didnt have a problem and i found and picked up this robe that had fallen down between my bed and the wall, and there were these little larvae all in it. they are REALLY tiny…quite a bit smaller than my pinky nail, and they are cream and dark brown striped…they also look pretty fuzzy. now i look it up and the picture that looked like them said carpet beetles, but im so scared I have bed bugs!! I have like 30 stuffed animals at the end of my bed and i started to look through them and found some more. its creeping my out cause its not like im a dirt person and it seems like they just came out of no where. so what can i do to make sure they are gone for good??? i have no carpet in my house (just wood floor and tile), so the ONLY place they could be is in and around my bed and stuffed animals. im in the process of washing all the stuffed animals, will that kill them?? and how do i make sure they arent in my matress?? please help, this is so disgusting :(
the only kind of spray i have to get rid of bugs is ADAMS for my animals…will that kill them??

I have bites that turn into welts, but I don’t see any evidence of bed bugs. Help!?

Posted by admin on July 21st, 2009

I once saw a small black bug on my mattress which didn’t look like the pictures of bed bugs I’ve seen and also didn’t look like a flea. There is no evidence of bed bugs (no blood stains, no smell, no visible bed bugs), but the bites turn into welts which isn’t typical of fleas. I only get one or two bites at a time, about every other day. I’ve seen small, flat, shiny, dark brown things (almost looks like chips of nail polish) that may be some kind of casing in my bed. What is that???? I’m desperate for help. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

is this a flea or bed bug problem?

Posted by admin on July 15th, 2009

for the past 3 nights i have noticed small red bumps on my skin. it started in my arm and then over the next 2 nights extended throughout my body: my feet and legs, back of neck, thighs…in other words, just about everywhere. i was looking into it, however i am confused as to if it is bed bugs or fleas that are responsible for these bites…btw, my brother has them too. comparing them to pictures i can’t really tell the difference between both bites so i am not sure what to do now. anybody have advice on how to go about this?
(i have looked around my bed and i have found nothing)
thanks!!!

can straight laundry bleach applied directly kill bed bug larvae once the live bugs have been killed?

Posted by admin on July 11th, 2009

When we moved my partner’s bed and couch over from an old apartment building, which has now been torn down, we had not realized that the "bites" which I was getting were from bedbugs. We later found out that others in the "old" building had experienced even worse infestations within their units. I had seen a skin doctor -he thought it might be fleas; I also saw family doctor-she thought it was stress. A year ago, we moved the furniture into my home and since then, I have had a few bites, nothing compared to before. We have found bedbugs live and of course killed them, and continue to vacuum the bed, etc. Currently, we are doing a complete hot wash and inspecting the bed every day to get the live ones-also not using bed now. Short of costly extermination, I thought that if we apply bleach to the areas where there could be larvae, that this might kill "it" before it hatches. Compared to before, I rarely get bitten-they do seem to like me better. Any answers to this?

For the love of God, and all that is holy, what ARE these bugs?

Posted by admin on July 7th, 2009

This is about the 3rd time I’ve posted this question, each time I revise it a little because people keep saying "mites" – but these things look NOTHING like any of the pictures of mites I can find. After observing them for 2 weeks, I can explain a little better:

The "babies" are almost impossible to see, and white. The "adults" (assuming these things aren’t sprouting wings and flying away) are only SLIGHTLY larger (about the size of a grain of sand) and they have mild greyish/brownish coloring – but I could be off! At the size they are, it’s very hard to see what color they actually are. I’m assuming they’d look pretty gnarly under a nice magnifying glass, or microscope. Here are some quick facts:

- They have "infested" a fake leather, black table thing. As well as a Korg Triton (a keyboard), and a little white futon with a cloth cover – but they haven’t touched my leather couch ~ which is only a few feet away from my other things, or about 45 seconds travel time for these little critters that seem to swarm in a way

- They don’t jump ~ they crawl, and QUICKLY in relation to their size.

- I believe, but am not certain, they may have been transported from a beach in Southern California, to my home in Santa Barbara, if any bug-experts need to know the location they were found

- I have no reason to believe that they have been biting me, I just get the "heeby-jeebies" when I see them and suddenly FEEL them all over me when they aren’t really there

- I only have 1 plant, it’s tiny, and no where near where they are hanging out

I’ve been given a lot of amateur suggestions on what they might be… but I can’t find any images on google that match up with any of that. I’m starting to wonder if I don’t have a new species of insect living in my apartment…

Not fleas. Not crabs. Not lice. Too big to be dust mites. Too FLAT to be a mite – all the mites I see have big asses sticking up in the air.

ALSO ~ They appear to have little antennae sticking off the front of them.

What kind of bugs can get on your bed other than bedbugs and fleas?

Posted by admin on June 6th, 2009

I noticed really little tiny bugs on my sheets the other night. They look like bugs you would find on a plant.
My husband is a landscaper so I blamed him and said he shouldn't put his dirty work clothes on the bed. He said that he didn't.
So I washed all the bedding in hot water and bleach and they showed up again….like quite a few of them again. We have a foam mattress topper.
I looked in the crevices and corners of the mattress itself for more bugs but cannot find them anywhere other than on top of the sheets.
They do not look like the pictures of bedbugs that I see, not even the nymphs, but what do I know.
They definitely are NOT fleas. Dust mites?…I dunno, doesn't look like the pics of those either. They are super small and don't appear flat and oval like bedbugs, but what the heck else could they be???
A couple of extra points: We have a fan above our bed?…relative, who knows?
Our bed is under our window…..dogs are on that side of the house.
Mattress foam topper, fairly new, less than a year.
I do not feel like I am getting bites, but these little boogers are so small, so who knows.
Any help/suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks!
yes, my hubby is faithful…we don't have crabs, we don't itch, I saw my hair dresser today and she didn't say I had (head) lice. I don't find them on my body. They are SUPER SMALL. I put 2 of them in a little plastic baggie, but I don't know any entomologists to take them to to evaluate :p
I'd say there are maybe 3-10 I see at a time, approx 1-2mm in length. little antenna's that wiggle around, almost colorless, actually a little bit of color, but more or less like a beige. I don't see any "rust" color looking spots on the white sheets.
They look harmless, but it's still creepy and I don't like to share my bed!
