How do I know if my son brought bed bugs home from his friend's house?

Posted by admin on February 26th, 2010

He was only there about 10- 15 minutes and sat on the bed (didn’t lay down.)
My question is what do I do with him now that I know he was at a bed bug infested place, albeit only for a few minutes. Wash his clothes? Spray him with something? Give him a hot bath?

How many times a week should you wash/re-wash clothes/linens if you have bed bugs and an exterminator?

Posted by admin on December 24th, 2009

We found out we had bed bugs pretty quickly. We got an exterminator and he will come every 2 weeks a total of 3 more times. In the meantime, I have washed linens, clothes, etc. in hot water and bleach or ammonia and in hot dry. We’ve been fine up until this morning when I woke up with a huge bite on my arm. I am going to wash the linens on the futon (we moved into the LR) and the clothes that are sitting out, but should I be washing my clothes and stuff every 3 days? I know I am vacuuming a lot. anyone have any ideas?

Bed Bugs Problem Help Lost?

Posted by admin on December 22nd, 2009

Hi all Steve here I I had a Bed Bug Problem in my House. I called an Exterminator and he sprayed 10 times. Them came back and Said there is no sign of any Bed Bugs at all they looked in all my Dressers and beds in the house everywhere even in the basement. They looked all over my House for over 2 hours. I do not see any or have not see any in weeks. Here is the thing I even washed all my Clothing in hot hot water and dried on the hottest setting I did this several times for all my clothes. After I did this I put them in Those huge Space Saver Bags. Home Come every time I but on my Clothes I notice I have little red Round Bites all over my Body. What could this be I a loosing my Mind. I wash my Clothes every Week in the Hottest of hottest water and dry them on the Hottest Setting and put them in a Brand new Space Saver Bag. What could this marks be? I only see them after I have put on Clothes and had them on a while. I notice no new ones when I wake up from my Sleep just when I put on my Clothes. I have even slept Totally Naked just to see if I notice any new makes and I do not. I only see new marks after I have but on my Clothes and had them on a while. What could this bee are the Bed Bugs Still Living Inside all my Clothes? I have washed them all every week in the Hottest of Hot Water and Dried them on the Hottest Setting. So are they not dieing on my Clothes or is this Something else? Like I say I only see these marks after I have put on My clothes that have been washed in very hot water and dried on the hottest setting. Should I throw out all my Clothes Out or what? I thought washing and drying in the Hottest Kills bed bugs. How can I tell if they are still in my Clothes? Why are these marks only coming when I but on my Clothes. Respond all thanks

I keep getting itchy like I have bed bugs or something?

Posted by admin on December 3rd, 2009

I think there are microscopic bugs that keep biting me but I’m not sure. At first I thought I had bed bugs so I cleaned my sheets. But the itch wont go away and I’m sure it could be bug bites because often I would get tiny red dots. Verry tiny. I tried cleaning my house and my clothes but I keep itching. I live near the ocean and some of friends have told me it could be sea lice? What do you guys think?

Can bed bugs live in your television, computer or stereo?

Posted by admin on November 15th, 2009

We are moving to a new (bed bug free) apartment in a few days from a pretty severely infested older apartment. We do NOT want to bring these horrible things with us. We are not bringing any furniture. Just our clothes (which will be washed in hot water before hand), our dvds and tapes and our electronics. I know how to treat everything else, but not the electronics. Help!?!?!? If I leave my computer outside overnight in the cold (wrapped in plastic of course) is there a chance it won’t work? I really need some answers!

Thanks,
Sam

Moving from apartment with bed bugs and cockroaches to new condo without bugs- how to NOT bring bugs with us?

Posted by admin on October 18th, 2009

Like it says in the question-
last year we signed a lease at what looked like a decent apartment just to find out after we signed the lease that the place was infested with cockroaches and bed bugs. We’ve spent the last year working with pest control companies and fighting against our crappy landlord but there are just too many bugs, so matter how many times we kill the ones in our apartment it doesn’t matter because there are still bugs in the rest of the building to come back again.

So finally our lease is up and my husband, our 3 month old son, scent hound, house cat, 2 dwarf hamsters, and I will be moving out of our disgusting bug infested apartment into a brand new never-lived in condo, without bugs, and we need to know how to move all our things, without bringing the bugs to infest our new home.

We’ll be moving over-sized leather couches, mattresses, the carpeted cat tree, doggie beds, closets full of clothes, luggage, blankets, baby toys, pillows, etc…
and we don’t want to bring the bugs with us.
So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated- thanks!
I ask in this section since this is where I usually get the best answers

How do I get rid of bed bugs?

Posted by admin on October 8th, 2009

Could anyone suggest some ways to get rid of the bed bugs that have invaded my clothes in the closet? They were initially in the bedroom and I thought had disappeared after pest control treatment. But they have only migrated to the closet. I will continue to follow the pest control treatment and washing of clothes in hot water as I saw in recommendations. But I need some effective measures to really be rid of them for good. Will appreciate good answers.

Bed bugs killed in dryer for more than 100 minutes at high setting?

Posted by admin on September 5th, 2009

So after travelling through europe for three weeks in hostels, the very last hostel we stayed at was infested with bed bugs. I only saw about three bugs, but I’m sure there are plenty hiding in the mattresses – after seeing all the bites on my body.

When I got home I sealed all my belongings in bags and kept it in the garage. I had clothes ready in bags to throw into the washing machine (hot water). After the wash I put them in the dryer for 60 minutes on the highest setting. I decided to put it for another 50 minutes on high just to be sure there are no bugs. Is this enough to kill the bed bugs? I hope I don’t bring them into my room…

and as for my backpack I haven’t cleaned it yet, it’s still sealed. I was thinking of pouring hot boiling water all over the bag and also scrubbing zippers and crevices with soapy water, and more boiling water. Is this enough?

Bed bugs and heat… will it get rid of them?

Posted by admin on August 31st, 2009

Alright, as many of us are aware, in the past few years, bed bugs have been on the rise in epidemic proportions in America. Unfortunately for me, I have them. Yeah, it’s gross.
I’m sure it’s bed bugs, I’ve done tons of research, and seen/killed them on my bed.
On the internet, websites suggest to keep the area clean and free of clutter, but that wont help me because my area is absolutely spotless. I barely have furniture! And I am the living anti-clutter. Anyways…

The websites say that the University of Florida have come up with the simple idea of using a controlled heat evironment containing the affected furniture.
But that got me to thinking. Experts also say that putting your clothes in the dryer will give off enough heat to kill the bugs.
So… why not just crank up the heat in the house?

And I don’t mean just turn on the heat.
Monday is going to be 100 degrees here. What if I turned the A/C off and turned the heat on? All the way, with the fan on, so it will continue to blow even after the thermostat reaches 100 degrees. I’m throwing my bed away, too. Obviously, this poses some kind of risk, right? I guess I can unplug almost everything, and take out all of the aresol cans and things of melty nature. Is this really a bad idea or am I really thinking the right way? I have no idea if I’m crazy due to just wanting to get rid of them so badly and avoiding the rental office and exterminator drama that will ensue at my apartment, or if this can actually work and I’m somewhat smart. =)

So I guess to sum up my questions, I want to know if you guys think it will work, and if you guys think it’s totally safe or unsafe.

Thanks everyone.
Tony, if you had read what I wrote, you would have found that I am throwing away my whole bed. And what do you even mean by, "you cant get rid of bed bugs". Simply throwing the bed away isn’t going to get rid of them, I don’t know what YOU think. But, anyhow, what I wrote really wasn’t that long, and if it seems long to you, then you’re not the kind of person I want even answering my question anyway.
Steven, that is kind of what I feared. You’re right… the air might be unbearable, but the actual walls and furniture and such probably wont get that hot. …. =/

how do you know if you have bed bugs?

Posted by admin on August 17th, 2009

i need to know if I have bed bugs before I really freak out. I’ve been getting bitten, once last night, once two nights before, a few times a few weeks ago. i assumed they were mosquito bites, but reading up on bed bugs… that’s what they may be. they only itch when i scratch them or my clothes rub up against them, that’s why i put cortizone and covered them with bandaids.

i just vacuumed every inch of my bed, washed the sheets and comforter and pillowcases. i saw a round brown thing on the box spring which looked like the picture of a bed bug (which i never want to see again), but i vacuumed it up. what should I do next? my room is pretty cluttered so i’m working on cleaning it up, i’ve just read horror stories of these things living in the cracks in the floor and the baseboards and stuff. what do i do next? i’m not positive i have them but the signs point to yes. should i get some mattress covers and new pillows? is there even any point? what do i do?

How long do I have to worry about bed bugs?

I stayed at a hotel in London (The Rose Court Hotel) and my room had bed bugs. I was very careful when I came home. Made sure to wash all my clothes in hot water and dry them on hot. How many days/weeks/months do I have to worry before I know I escaped an infestation problem?

Who is held liable for bed bugs, the landlord or the renter?

Posted by admin on July 17th, 2009

Hi I live in Tempe, Arizona In an apartment called Wilshire Pines (do not move there) and have been living here for 6 months.

And i would like to know who is held liable if bed bugs infest an apartment? Is it the Landlord/apartment manager or the People who reside in the apartment?

Please answer I really would appreciate it, thanks!
And also I’ve been getting these bed bugs when i was heading into my 5th month.
I moved in 6 months ago. We brought our beds, furniture etc. practically everything. Then suddenly on the 5 month of our lease, bed bugs started appearing on our beds and clothes.
