has anyone killed bed bugs on their own without an exterminator?

Posted by admin on August 24th, 2011

I have bed bugs in my apartment this is the first time i ever have this its annoying i cannot afford an exterminator and my landlord thinks its too much to pay for i have talked to her about this issue millions of times in the last month and she refuses to help! just four days ago i started using my own home remedies i got the iron and started ironing all my mattress and carpet! in the room the steam helped a lot i haven’t gotten bit but i’ve been steaming in everyday i threw away clothes bagged up all the shoes sprayed hot shot on them and closed it my clothes i haven’t done because i don’t have enough money to wash every clothing item and what not i threw out some furniture that was inside the room. Today i am doing the living room i took out my center table and the chairs my dinner table and chairs sprayed them also and I’m gonna do the couch and leave it outside as well gonna try to iron the whole carpet in the living room…. there’s another room too but i cant clean that one as much as i would like to cause we rented but its seems like ever since that person moved in we got this issue i try to clean it when that person is not here but its impossible i wish i could just throw everything in that room away! I’m frustrated i can take it anymore i wanna runaway haha but anyways has anyone used any of their own home remedies and how have you gotten rid of those filthy bugs and cheap products you guys recommend or anything please help!

How do you get rid of bed bugs without spending a lot of money?

Posted by admin on August 13th, 2011

I’m currently not working and can not afford much of anything.. Therefore, I can not afford an exterminator or even plastic bed covers.

What I have bought is hot shot bed bug and flea aerosol spray.
My concern is using it on my mattress.
I do not own and can not afford a steam cleaner.
Is it safe to spray hot shot on your mattresses and just let it dry and vacuum?
Is it safe to spray on clothes in your home? (not the clothes you’re wearing, but the ones in your closet, drawers, ect.)

How do I get rid of bed bugs?

Posted by admin on May 16th, 2011

I have to do an internship to graduate and I found it in England, London more exactly. I have been renting a room in a flatshare since January 20th 2011.

I started to get bitten only a couple of days after I moved in. At first I thought it was like spiders bites or something. I kept being bitten every night. I started to tell about this around me and some people suggested that it might be bed bugs. I had never heard of this then. So I did some research and started to get concerned and try to convince myself that it was not this.

But this problem did not stop so I called my agency to ask for a new bed or if there was anything they could do. I had just been said to buy a spray. I was still hoping it could not be this.

Last Monday, my boyfriend slept with me and he got bitten in the middle of the night and killed the beast who bit him and he told me blood came out and that it was a bed bug. We called the agency and they told me today that they would get me a new bed today.

The thing is there is wooden furniture in the room and carpet on the floor so I am not sure just changing the bed will resolve the problem. And I am guessing now that my stuff (clothes, luggage) must be infested too. I have been bitten almost every night for three months now so most of my stuff must be infested.

I asked the agent to call a professional pest control and he said he would take care of this. But I don’t want the new bed to be infested in the meantime they inspect my room. I will have to wash all my clothes now and my luggage. I don’t want to bring this to France when I get home. Even though there will be a professional control in my room, well hopefully, I am still afraid that the problem won’t be resolved. I can’t just leave the room because I have not finished my internship and I will have to give one month notice before moving out but I don’t really feel like staying there now. Plus I can’t afford an expensive rent and the one I am paying right now is not too expensive and all the bills are included. I think I can’t find something which would be fairly decent for the same price.

Last night, I could not sleep and the lumps are really itchy. I already have some skin condition (Eczema) and the bites don’t help at all.

I am really afraid to bring those beasts to France. My sister is over for the week and we will have to be very careful I guess so she doesn’t bring them at home.

What should I do? How can I get rid of bed bugs for good?

Tip for people who have bed bugs?

Posted by admin on March 9th, 2011

Hi everyone I wanted to let anyone who is dealing with these critters a way to kill them I haven’t had a problem with them for a month. Now its kill on contact so you actually have to see the bug and spray it or the eggs. Do this for about a week I know it is time consuming but it worked for me.
get rubbing alcohol obviously it depends on how big your house is and how much furniture you have on how much you need to buy.
Spray the nests that are probably on the underside of your bed or chair or couch. you’ll need to vacuum your bed and if your bed has a design on it vacuum the design as well go around every crease every crack. Use Vaseline on and wood parts near the floor like the legs. These bus will not cross a Vaseline barrier. Then clean out any clutter you have. Throw your clothes ALL of them in the dryer for 30 minutes, not at one time. Just do a normal load and put it in on high heat. hang them when they come out of the dryer. spray all your furniture where you have seen a bug vacuum it. Vacuum around your base boards, then tape or block off all unused plug ins and light sockets. Bag your bed in a bed bag or if you can’t afford one use plastic wrap. This worked for me. Just try it before you think I am crazy.

How can I make sure there aren't bed bugs in my luggage?

I’m on a business trip and one of the guys in our hotel had bed bugs in his room. We are switching hotels tomorrow morning. I’ve searched my room and I haven’t found any signs of bugs. I am going to wash all my clothes before we go, but how can I make sure my luggage is clean?

There was a long skinny bug on pants that I had laid out a couple days ago, but I haven’t seen any other bugs or signs of anything since.

However, my mom’s job involves working with underprivileged clients and a couple of them have bed bugs. She goes into their homes very rarely, but she transports them in her car that has leather seats. I’m just wondering if bed bugs could transfer onto her clothes or car?

I have a big phobia of bugs!! HELP ME?

Posted by admin on August 17th, 2010

Bugs make me cringe!! Water-bugs/cockroaches,silverfish and beetles! The reason why I hate those bugs they look and sound disgusting! I am always scared of a bug getting in my bed and waking up on me! I always was scared of bugs. I am so scared even if I hear or see a cockroach I run in my room, close the door, put a towel on the crack of the door, call my mom’s cellphone and tell her to kill it and until she does that I would never come out!

First of all are exterminator use to come every 6th months but now its July and our exterminator hasn’t came to our house since December!

I started having this phobia when I was sitting on the couch and a silverfish crawled on my arm! I was so terrified that I was crying and screaming took off my clothes jump into the shower and scrubbed my arm so hard my arm was red. After that bugs were everywhere! There were water-bugs and silverfish in the sink and tub that now I am scared to look at the tub and sink! Then with the roach and beetles, my aunt had a bad case of roaches and they were everywhere in the tub, toilet, even the cabinet! One day I opened up the cabinet an roaches fell on me! I started crying and stayed in the car!

I hate bugs with hard shells cause when you step on them they sound all crunchy and gooey stuff comes out of it that makes me scared to even kill it! Plus they are so fast and they can get everywhere!! I have to overcome my fear because bugs are everywhere there isn’t going to be one place where they isn’t bugs even in hotels! It is horrible living like this! I scared to sit on the floor, sit on the couch, put my feet on the ground, I can’ wear my shoes without thinking there is a bug in it so I have to check it, I can’t go outside, I can’t leave the door open without hurrying up and close it, I can’t even tumble outside without thinking I am going to land on a bug!! I CAN’T EVEN LOOK AT A PICTURE OF A BUG! The sound they make when they are stepped on, how they look, how they move, how they are shaped, the color!! ITS FREAKING ME OUT!!

I AM SO SORRY FOR THE LONG MESSAGE BUT..i need help! please minutes ago I woke up my mom to kill a bug in my dog’s room and the beetle was crawling on his water dish! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me please!
Thank You! :)

how many bed bugs are there in my room?

Posted by admin on May 28th, 2010

My mother has them in her apartment and I seemed to have bought them with me to my own apartment. About two weeks ago i noticed 5 bites in one particular area on my ankle. Thought it was just an allergic reaction to something. Then two days later i saw 6 more bites on the same leg. By then i was thinking i could have bed bugs. After this incident, i have not been bitten for a few days. Today, i finally saw one crawling in my sheets. Could this be the only one that has been biting me and not my husband? have considered the fact that i do visit my mother’s apartment frequently, the fact that i only got the bites and my husband has not, and that they are only in my room. Could i just have a few? maybe the one i found today and killed was the main one that bit me

As for exterminating them, i have gotten plastic covers for my mattress, put my clothes in plastic bags and will be cleaning my entire room with Clorox, including my mattress.
i forgot to mention that
i moved this new apartment in a new house a 1 yr ago and have only noticed the bed bug for about 2 weeks. Since its a new apartment i don’t have much furniture in my room except a wooden tv stand, a tv, and a closet that has sliding wooden doors.

The other night i found a single bed bug crawling on the floor, am i infested?

Posted by admin on April 27th, 2010

My boyfriend was getting changed and when i looked down i saw a small beetle looking bug, it was dim so i squished it and we went to bed. In the morning we looked at the bug, and it was a bed bug. The day before that, i noticed 3 red bumps on my arm. They look a lot like bed bug bites. I have since cleaned out my room, vacuumed every crack and crevasse, and i have inspected everywhere i could think. There is no evidence of bed bugs on my mattress (ie fecal matter, shedded skin, other bed bugs, blood etc) or anywhere else. My mom is going out to buy some bed bug spray for my mattress today. My boyfriend has been staying in shelters until he is able to move in to his apartment. Is it possible it could have been only one bed bug that was transferred from the shelter by his clothes to my room? Or is it likely that in the time he spent in my room had infested it, or other parts of my house like the living room?

Apartment infested with bed bugs, what do i do?

Posted by admin on April 19th, 2010

i just noticed them a month ago. i live in a one bedroom apartment with my small pomeranian. They have infested the couch and bed, which are the main places i have seen them. I told my apartment manager and at first they said they would take care of the problem. Now they are saying if i want them out, i have to pay for it. I haven’t gotten any new furniture and honestly i dont know where they came from. they are driving me crazy because they are biting me and my dog. I can’t even bear to sit on the couch, but i can’t stop the dog from doing so. I put mattress covers on my bed and they seem to be helping in my room, but the living room is another story. I dont have the money for an exterminator, plus i only have 2 months on my lease. I have already found another place, and i know i have to take special precautions when moving.
I just don’t have the funds to pay for two places at the same time if i move. last night, i got so fed up wit them i went to my parents. i washed the dog thoroughly and dried him on high heat with a blow dryer. I washed and dried my clothes and immediately threw them and the dog in the car and ran for cover to my parents. I read articles on how not to take them with you, and they say you need to wash and dry your clothes and other items. Anything above 113F will kill them. I haven’t been able to sleep because i know they are just waiting for me. i average about 3 hours of sleep a night, and i am seriously abusing coffee. Anyways if you guys were in my situation , what would you seriously do? Give me a step by step procedure. I cant stand these things at all. they are driving me crazy, i need help
not to mention i cant even spend time with the dog because i know she has been sitting on the couch for hours accumulating them. she wants to sleep with me , but i am afraid she willl bring them in my bed again. she scratches at the door and i feel really bad. i can’t wash her everyday b4 bed..ya know!

How can you get rid of bed bugs without an exterminator?

Posted by admin on April 14th, 2010

With a large 2 family house and many things like books, clothes, wall hangings and rugs, what the exterminator wants would be like moving. Is there a way, natural or with pesticides to do it yourself without the hassle? The infestation, after close scrutiny seems to be confined to one bedroom on the first floor and one on the second. Mattresses are being replaced, clothes washed, things placed in the sun, alcohol sprayed where needed. Help, anyone!

Bed bug infestation, who is responsible? Please help?

Posted by admin on April 7th, 2010

I was living in an apartment complex that had bed bugs and I was unaware of it. The infestation started in the apartment below us I was told. That apartment got sprayed for bugs and then they came up to my apartment. I was never told of the infestation or to keep an eye out for bugs, until it was too late. At first I thought I was allergic to the detergent i was using cause I thought I was breaking out in hives. I changed my bed sheets and detergent and the itchy didn’t stop.

A month goes by and I happen to be talking to some other tenants in my building and they told me they had bed bugs and were treated for them already. I started looking around and found that my mattress had blood stains on it and i started seeing the bugs. My mattress had to be thrown out and they eventually spread throughout the apartment. We had to get rid of our two couches as well as my queen size mattress.

We got the complex to spray our apartment and the surrounding ones and we had to bag up all our stuff and take it to get cleaned. I ended up spending at a laundromat plus the cost of the mattress and two couches we had to throw away. I slept on an air mattress and was still getting bit. They were supposed to spray 3 times but they only came twice and I was still finding the bugs; in my filing cabinet, dressers, walls, covers, etc.

We decided to break our lease because the problem was not being fixed, we also had roaches and a mice problem as well. Our apartment was not dirty and we cleaned a lot but the insects still came even after the treatments. They were in the walls and just moved from apartment to apartment. I spent 3 months with beg bug infestation, having to worry about having people over, going to others apartments, I didn’t want them to spread. I always washed my clothes and sheets just to be safe but nothing worked.

Eventually we moved to a different complex, we had to wash every piece of fabric and check all the furniture. So that is where I am now, a different apartment complex and I’ve found 4 bugs already. I have gotten bit a few times and I found one in my clarinet case the other day. I have no idea how they traveled with us but they did. I don’t know what to do because I don’t know who is responsible. Are we going to get blamed for bringing them in, or is the old complex responsible for not getting rid of the problem. I don’t want them to spread to other tenants apartments but I’m not sure if I should tell my new apartment complex or get a private exterminator. Any suggestions or stories would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone. If I get a private exterminator how much would it cost? Also, would it be reasonable to ask the old complex to pay for it? Or at least the money we lost?

Moving from apartment with bed bugs and cockroaches to new condo without bugs- how to NOT bring bugs with us?

Posted by admin on March 19th, 2010

Like it says in the question-
last year we signed a lease at what looked like a decent apartment just to find out after we signed the lease that the place was infested with cockroaches and bed bugs. We’ve spent the last year working with pest control companies and fighting against our crappy landlord but there are just too many bugs, so matter how many times we kill the ones in our apartment it doesn’t matter because there are still bugs in the rest of the building to come back again.

So finally our lease is up and my husband, our 3 month old son, scent hound, house cat, 2 dwarf hamsters, and I will be moving out of our disgusting bug infested apartment into a brand new never-lived in condo, without bugs, and we need to know how to move all our things, without bringing the bugs to infest our new home.

We’ll be moving over-sized leather couches, mattresses, the carpeted cat tree, doggie beds, closets full of clothes, luggage, blankets, baby toys, pillows, etc…
and we don’t want to bring the bugs with us.
So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated- thanks!

Bed bugs, dust mites, lice oh my !?

Posted by admin on March 14th, 2010

I read several medical articles that recommend dry cleaning infested sheets and pillow cases. It kills 100% of the bugs and eggs and at everystage of their development.

Even large pillows can be dry cleaned by good cleaners.

But its a big hassle, because to do a thorough job I also have to send out my rugs and some of my clothes that are infested.

No big deal I guess because they pick up and deliver.

But here is the question… where did they come from?
My pets, my guests or from me?

I never wear clothes more then twice, most are dry cleaned or washed weekly.

Should I send my pets out to be cleaned with special insecticide shampoos? How do I know if they are infested ?
Good stuff.
Thanks.

My pets rarely scratch so I guess its not form them.

Oh, I wouldn’t send to a dry cleaners a infested sheet without sealing it in a plastic bag and labeling it. And once its in the machine everything is dead anyway and protected in a plastic bag before its returned. I wouldn’t infest the employees for my own sake. Besides they know what they are doing. Its a demand common enough that they seem to have protocals for it.

The articles say that washing infested clothes will not kill the infestation if they are in the larval phase. And I never use bleach on my clothes. (really top of the line stuff). And I dry on habgers or low heat. So washing is useless for infestations.

But just in case I may bath my pets. Because if my sheets are infested some are bound to be on them.

My body is not covered with bites. Ouch! Ichy! Gross.

Money is nooooo object!!!
I’ll pay to have stuff cleaned all at once!!!
It doesn’t happen often, but if it does its WAR!!!
Good stuff.
Thanks.
