How do I get rid of bed bugs?
How To Kill Bed Bugs September 14th, 2011Since about a week or so ago, I’ve gotten bug bites all over my body. Yesterday, my father woke up with bed bugs ALL OVER THE COUCH. We’ve stripped every bed and couch in this house of its bedding, and have yet to find any bed bugs anywhere except for on the couch. We’ve searched and searched again, and hope not to find any more.
We’ve scrubed and sprayed down the couch with some bug spray that specializes in killing bed bugs, and an exterminator is stopping by tomorrow morning to spray the entire first floor… But how can I do my best to gaurantee that the bugs don’t spread? They don’t seem to be anywhere but on and around the couch, but I really just want to be sure. They’re disgusting little things, and it doesn’t help the matter that I’m deathly afraid of even the most harmless bugs.
So, are there any steps I could take?

search yahoo answers…its been discussed ALOT!
some tips…
1.) get an exterminator….it can take several visits to get rid of them
2.) get box spring/mattress covers (rated for ‘allergen’)
3.) it is not recommended to try to use pesticides yourself…you can just scare them away and they’ll spread to other parts of your house. definitely dont use foggers or bug bombs.
4.) two words…. DIATOMACEOUS EARTH. food grade/freshwater ONLY. it will kill EVERY single creepy crawly out there and its all natural.
good luck!!!!

remove it form the house until the exterminator get there.

The exterminator should do the trick. There’s nothing like have a professional come in. But there is a ton of info on the web on these little buggers. Some you have probably tried, others perhaps not.

My cousin also had this issue a few months ago, she encountered one while she was sleeping so she got up in the middle of the night and vacuumed the whole house, bed sheet, to bed, to couch etc..the she brought all of her linen to get them washed. After that, no more bed bugs ^_^

usually if its out of control,, exterminators heat the whole house at about 140 degrees f,,,,this will kill any insect that lives in the interior.

Hopefully, the exterminator knows the proper way of ridding your place of them. I’ve heard that ultra high or ultra cold temps are pretty much all that works. I.e. steaming or freezing, but that too is something a pro must do, if I’m not mistaken. I’m not a bug expert and hope I never have this problem but this is what I’ve been reading and hearing on the news. You might want to do a Google search about it and see what you can find. Even if you don’t see the grown bugs, there’s always the possibility of their larvae being around somewhere where you can’t see them. I know that’s gross, but such be the case. Good luck.

G’day Meiko,
Thank you for your question.
Get in pest killers would be one good option. The New York City Government has issued advice on what to do.

Start your own creepy crawler collection. While you’re most likely going to want to get rid of the bed bugs altogether, it’s important to save the bugs that you do find. You’ll need evidence of bugs to show any landlords or exterminators. When you do save them, make sure to tape them to a surface where they will be easily visible. Bed bugs are small and often hard to see with the naked eye.
