How do I get rid of bed bugs?

Posted by admin on September 14th, 2011

Since about a week or so ago, I’ve gotten bug bites all over my body. Yesterday, my father woke up with bed bugs ALL OVER THE COUCH. We’ve stripped every bed and couch in this house of its bedding, and have yet to find any bed bugs anywhere except for on the couch. We’ve searched and searched again, and hope not to find any more.

We’ve scrubed and sprayed down the couch with some bug spray that specializes in killing bed bugs, and an exterminator is stopping by tomorrow morning to spray the entire first floor… But how can I do my best to gaurantee that the bugs don’t spread? They don’t seem to be anywhere but on and around the couch, but I really just want to be sure. They’re disgusting little things, and it doesn’t help the matter that I’m deathly afraid of even the most harmless bugs. :(

So, are there any steps I could take?

has anyone killed bed bugs on their own without an exterminator?

Posted by admin on August 24th, 2011

I have bed bugs in my apartment this is the first time i ever have this its annoying i cannot afford an exterminator and my landlord thinks its too much to pay for i have talked to her about this issue millions of times in the last month and she refuses to help! just four days ago i started using my own home remedies i got the iron and started ironing all my mattress and carpet! in the room the steam helped a lot i haven’t gotten bit but i’ve been steaming in everyday i threw away clothes bagged up all the shoes sprayed hot shot on them and closed it my clothes i haven’t done because i don’t have enough money to wash every clothing item and what not i threw out some furniture that was inside the room. Today i am doing the living room i took out my center table and the chairs my dinner table and chairs sprayed them also and I’m gonna do the couch and leave it outside as well gonna try to iron the whole carpet in the living room…. there’s another room too but i cant clean that one as much as i would like to cause we rented but its seems like ever since that person moved in we got this issue i try to clean it when that person is not here but its impossible i wish i could just throw everything in that room away! I’m frustrated i can take it anymore i wanna runaway haha but anyways has anyone used any of their own home remedies and how have you gotten rid of those filthy bugs and cheap products you guys recommend or anything please help!

Will Flea Busters Powder also kill Bed Bugs?

Posted by admin on August 11th, 2011

OK, I have a bit of a bug phobia, and I have no idea how this could have happened, but I did buy new bedding about 4 months ago, and last Sunday I found 3 bugs that looked like bed bugs under my mattress!!!! Each one was like half the size of a bead, brown and flat. Of course, every piece of bedding went to wash in hot water, double dose of detergent, dryer for 90 minutes each batch, several day project.

Because of my phobia, I use Flea Busters’ Boric acid powder for maintenance cause it is effective in dehydrating bugs and it is safe and I have seen it kill spiders and roaches too. Pest control people say that bed bugs are a special breed and need special fumigating at the tune of 0!!

Does anyone know if Flea Busters Powder will kill a bed bug? I also read diotamecous earth will also kill bed bugs?

I also found a product called Bed Bug Powder, but I cannot find the product ingredient details to compare with Flea Busters to see if they are the same thing.

I read bed bugs have become a huge problem in the U.S., like in hotels…..that is why I have not traveled unless I can stay with family….the only thing I did different was buy a new mattress cover about 4 months ago and that is where I found the bug. It was packaged, but what if it was a return!!!

Since my bed is 8 years old, I am throwing it away, but I don’t know how long to wait before buying a new bed to ensure these things are gone before such an expense…. help!!!!

Help!

Help! How to kill bed bugs?!?

Posted by admin on June 21st, 2011

I just found out I have bed bugs. I’m not sure how far they’ve spread in my home, I’ve only seen them in one room. I’ve been searching online for ways to kill the living nightmares, and came across diatomaceous earth. I bought some yesterday and after vaccuming the floor, put it everywhere on the floor, and even the bed. But I’ve also read that bed bugs are almost impossible to kill without proffesional help, which I can’t afford. Anyone know of anything else that will help (in case the diatomaceous earth doesn’t)?

Can anyone help me with these bastard bed bugs?

Posted by admin on June 12th, 2011

The bed bugs and their biting (and my itching) are waking me up every so many hours at night. I dred going to sleep and I can’t stay sleep for very long. I know this an epidemic right now, but does anyone know how i can kill them or at least reduce them, or stop them from biting me? The (bed bug) spray seems to only be a temporary fix. P.S. I can’t afford professional exterminators.
Thank you everyone for your input. Very helpful

How to bug-proof house (or at least bedroom)?

Posted by admin on May 31st, 2011

Ok so this morning at like 8 I woke up to a creepy crawly feeling on me neck only to find it was a giant roach. Now I am not the average person who might be a little grossed out by bugs…i am TERRIFIED of them..and honestly who wouldn’t be freaked out by a giant reach crawling on them. The thing is it wasn’t just on the floor, it was on my body and my bed where I have to sleep which made it 10x worse.

To give you an idea of just how terrified i am of bugs…I killed it (out of rage for being on my bed, because i usually can’t muster up the courage to kill bugs) and then had to call someone on the phone in tears while I spent like an hour and a half trying to get rid of the dead carcass which I was so sure was going to somehow come back to life. I know I know ‘they can’t hurt you they’re smaller than you blah blah blah’ but in the moment my mind doesn’t process all that logic.

I took a shower and haven’t been in the room since…or went back to sleep -_-. Later I will change the sheets but basically my question is how do I get rid if these freaking bugs?! The exterminator has been in twice and although there are less of them it seems like the reaches have become bigger and more gross looking. now don’t get me wrong my apartment isn’t dirty or anything I’m actually very anal about cleanliness but I think its because there is some remodeling going on in another apartment and the stupid bugs need a new home.

So any ideas..not raid because that doesn’t work…maybe something I can put under the crack in the door so the reaches will be deterred from coming into my room…or in between small cracks and in cabinets, etc.

What are these bugs and how do I get rid of them?

Posted by admin on May 25th, 2011

There are these small bugs showing up in my bed room, and I can’t figure out what’s causing it. It just started happening as the temperature started to go up again. What should I do? They aren’t bed bugs, and they aren’t roaches or ants, or the centipedes that are common around here. I’m not even sure what they are. They’re harmless and easy to kill, but a pest is a pest and you can’t have guests with bugs crawling up your walls and under your bed — which is where I tend to find the majority of them. Here’s a link to a picture of one, if anyone can identify it.

How do I get rid of bed bugs?

Posted by admin on May 16th, 2011

I have to do an internship to graduate and I found it in England, London more exactly. I have been renting a room in a flatshare since January 20th 2011.

I started to get bitten only a couple of days after I moved in. At first I thought it was like spiders bites or something. I kept being bitten every night. I started to tell about this around me and some people suggested that it might be bed bugs. I had never heard of this then. So I did some research and started to get concerned and try to convince myself that it was not this.

But this problem did not stop so I called my agency to ask for a new bed or if there was anything they could do. I had just been said to buy a spray. I was still hoping it could not be this.

Last Monday, my boyfriend slept with me and he got bitten in the middle of the night and killed the beast who bit him and he told me blood came out and that it was a bed bug. We called the agency and they told me today that they would get me a new bed today.

The thing is there is wooden furniture in the room and carpet on the floor so I am not sure just changing the bed will resolve the problem. And I am guessing now that my stuff (clothes, luggage) must be infested too. I have been bitten almost every night for three months now so most of my stuff must be infested.

I asked the agent to call a professional pest control and he said he would take care of this. But I don’t want the new bed to be infested in the meantime they inspect my room. I will have to wash all my clothes now and my luggage. I don’t want to bring this to France when I get home. Even though there will be a professional control in my room, well hopefully, I am still afraid that the problem won’t be resolved. I can’t just leave the room because I have not finished my internship and I will have to give one month notice before moving out but I don’t really feel like staying there now. Plus I can’t afford an expensive rent and the one I am paying right now is not too expensive and all the bills are included. I think I can’t find something which would be fairly decent for the same price.

Last night, I could not sleep and the lumps are really itchy. I already have some skin condition (Eczema) and the bites don’t help at all.

I am really afraid to bring those beasts to France. My sister is over for the week and we will have to be very careful I guess so she doesn’t bring them at home.

What should I do? How can I get rid of bed bugs for good?

Possibly have bed bugs- moving?

Posted by admin on May 13th, 2011

Hi There,
I recently found about 15-20 tiny blood spots/smears on my sheets in a small cluster. I have no bites and have not seen any other evidence of bed bugs, but I am paranoid and strongly believe "Better safe than sorry". Luckily, I am moving in less than a month. If I do have bed bugs how can I safely move without bringing any? What should I do other than wash everything that can be washed? What can I do about my mattress/box spring (I can’t afford to throw it out and get a new one.. especially if I don’t 100% know that i have bugs)? What should I do with my furniture (Dressers, shelves, night stands, couch, dining room table… etc.)? What about other things I cannot wash such as picture frames, books, lamps, cat scratchers, chairs, DVD’S, laundry baskets, GUITAR AND GUITAR CASE, and ELECTRONICS?? Should I totally ignore everything in the living room or should I treat every single thing I own? Including kitchen things like cups, plates, microwave, toaster oven, blender??

I have read that renting a moving truck and heating it to 120+ degrees for a few hours would kill bed bugs on anything in the truck. How does that work? What items should I not put in the truck? Should they be placed apart from each other, or does it matter?

Also, there are obviously some things that cannot be heated that much. For those items, what can I do??

I realize that there is a good chance I am freaking out over nothing, but I don’t like the idea of having tiny bugs suck my blood while I sleep and I don’t want to take any chances!

How can I get rid of these small bugs in my room?

Posted by admin on April 29th, 2011

They are NOT bed bugs, they are active in the daytime and there are no signs of bugs on my mattress. No matter how many I kill, I always find more the next day on my window sill and a few on my bed sometimes. They are black, very small, with what looks to me like white stripes? They are quite furry, I mean they have white hair. I have no idea where they are coming from but I cannot even be comfortable in my own room anymore, how can I get rid of them for good? How do you have to do to kill bed bugs?

Posted by admin on April 20th, 2011

I found a single bed bug in my bed, and no other signs at all of any more.?

Posted by admin on April 17th, 2011

When I woke up this morning there was a single bug sitting on my comforter next to me. I have no bites or anything. I have been planning a trip that is happening in a few weeks, so have been researching bed bugs in hotels and know what they look like and how to find them and what not… At first I figured it was a tick, but it did not have the legs like a tick and was flat and brown. I immediately looked up pictures and it is in fact a bed bug. I have a brand new bed that i bought before moving into this apartment about 8 months back and the apartments do not have any other bed bug issues. Also, Immediately after finding the bug, I killed it and flushed it down the toilet, then searched around my bed all over in it and around it, Removed my blankets, sheets, and mattress cover, and threw them into a garbage bags and tied it up. I then grabbed all of my laundry and the bags with my bedding stuff and went to the Laundromat. I put all the pillows in the dryer for 40 min and washed and dried everything on hot. I have vacuumed and sprayed bleach all over everything in my room (carpet, mattress, frame, etc..). I have searched my bed thoroughly in all cracks and what not, and see absolutely no signs of them anywhere (no casings, shells, blood spots, bugs… nothing) I have a completely bright white mattress too, so i figure it should be fairly easy to spot them. I think that the one could have been brought in by my friend who goes out of town every week for work and is constantly staying in hotels. He came over and was in my room the night he got back into town (which was Saturday night), and I found the bug the following Tuesday morning. Do you think I have an infestation?????? should i be worried? Im already scared to sleep in my bed now..,
How does an infestation start, then, if there can never be just ONE?
Isnt it quite possible that the bug I found was just one that was carried over from my friend?

Can dettol kill bed bugs?

Posted by admin on April 2nd, 2011

I saw few articles by some people online and they claim they managed to kill bed bugs with dettol. How true is this? I heard they cant be killed easily so thats why Im skeptical that dettol will do the job though I really hope it will. Has anyone tried it?

Do I really have to hire pest exterminator even though its mild infestation? Its really costly and there are no guarantee the bugs will disappear for good.

And how long should I wait after cleaning the room (discard old mattress and bed frames) before I can bring in the new ones so that the bugs will not infest in my new bed?
somehow i finally manage to try spraying some dettol on bed bugs. it kills them instanly. 3 were killed!

How do I get rid of bed bugs?

Posted by admin on March 30th, 2011

I’ve recently spotted two bed bugs on my bed. I’ve looked at pictures online and am sure that they are bed bugs.
I got a new mattress 10 months ago, wash my bedding and curtains regularly every week, and clean my room (and closet) every week as well, in short, my room is always clean–so its really annoying that I have these bugs lurking in my bedroom, especially since the purpose of my "compulsive" cleaning is to keep my bedroom vermin-free.

How do I get rid of them effectively? I’ve read that sealing my mattress in plastic would kill the bugs (over a period of time), I’m willing to do this but where can I get a plastic big enough to fit my mattress (full size).
Any other suggestions will greatly be appreciated, since I’ve only spotted two so far in about a month’s time, the problem doesn’t seem bad now, regardless, its disgusting and I want to take care of this before it gets bad.

Tip for people who have bed bugs?

Posted by admin on March 9th, 2011

Hi everyone I wanted to let anyone who is dealing with these critters a way to kill them I haven’t had a problem with them for a month. Now its kill on contact so you actually have to see the bug and spray it or the eggs. Do this for about a week I know it is time consuming but it worked for me.
get rubbing alcohol obviously it depends on how big your house is and how much furniture you have on how much you need to buy.
Spray the nests that are probably on the underside of your bed or chair or couch. you’ll need to vacuum your bed and if your bed has a design on it vacuum the design as well go around every crease every crack. Use Vaseline on and wood parts near the floor like the legs. These bus will not cross a Vaseline barrier. Then clean out any clutter you have. Throw your clothes ALL of them in the dryer for 30 minutes, not at one time. Just do a normal load and put it in on high heat. hang them when they come out of the dryer. spray all your furniture where you have seen a bug vacuum it. Vacuum around your base boards, then tape or block off all unused plug ins and light sockets. Bag your bed in a bed bag or if you can’t afford one use plastic wrap. This worked for me. Just try it before you think I am crazy.

I think i have bed bugs, help?

Posted by admin on February 27th, 2011

For a while, every time I would lay down to go to bed I would itch uncontrollably. I began to think that maybe I had bed bugs, though I had no bites. Not long after that I saw a tiny little brown bug in my room. I killed it and told my family that I thought that maybe there were bed bugs in my room. They didn’t believe me and said that I was crazy. After that, I washed all of my linens and curtains an dvacuumed my box spring and mattres. I haven’t been itchy at night for a long time now but yesterday I discovered three bites on my legs. They aren’t near each other or in rows like most bed bug bite pictures I have seen. I just checked my mattress and box spring and didn’t come across anything too suspicious. No dead bugs or anything like that. There are some stains on the box spring but I’m not sure if they are bed bug stains. I vacuumed the box spring and mattress again and am washing everything in hot water as I type this. I also sprayed the bed with lysol and have my bedroom window open. I keep my room pretty clean and haven’t stayed in any hotels as of late so I don’t know how I could have gotten them. I’m not sure what to do since my family doesn’t believe, me I can’t call an exterminator.

Tiny grey/black bugs in my room? Please help?

Posted by admin on February 2nd, 2011

Today as I was cleaning a wound on my leg, i noticed a little grey/black beetle sort of bug, so I flicked it off, i looked where it landed and there was about 4 near my window (not on the window, still on the floor)
So I kill them, I then look at another part of the floor and I notice another, I keep looking and found 2 more hiding under my wardrobe ect. I then decide it’s best to hoover up and keep a few on the floor so I can show my parents later, I’ve just went under my bed, which I used to store all my crap (books, magasines, old boxes, along with alot of dust and a few tiny bits of food and sand which got swept under there over the years) and I hoovered under there and i found more! I’ve not found any so far on my walls or my bed, I’ve checked for bed bugs and nothing, looked at the different types of carpet beetles and none of them look like them! They look like a lady bug but half the size with a black shell and little grey patterns on it, and they crunch when they get squished lol! Any idea as to what they could be and how to get rid of them? Will they crawl on me when I’m sleeping? None of my fabrics are damaged whatsoever, my bed sheets and pillows had none on,

I’m getting a double bed soon and that means I have a chance to clear all the crap from under my bed and get rid of the bastards, the new bed won’t be able to have things underneath it either, so how can I get rid of them??

Look like these but black and grey and no antenna, the legs are more tucked in too.

PS: I have wooden floors and as far as I know, I have little to no fabric under my bed…

Bed bugs problem on a empty cold house?

My ex-tenant had bed bugs in the rental single house. Now I have the property empty, is cold in Connecticut below 20 Fahrenheit, will the cold weather kill the bed bugs? I turn off the heat in the property and drain all the pipes so they won’t be frozen and open some of the windows. I have rugs all over the house and I used Diatomaceous Earth powder and also bed bugs foggers, will that help the problem. If the cold weather help, for how long do I need to leave on the cold before turning the heater back on and how to find out if they are really gone?

What are these tiny ant-like biting insect in my bed?

Posted by admin on January 21st, 2011

I bought a new mattress about 3 weeks ago and just a few days ago I noticed these tiny ant like (but not ants) bugs with black wings in my bed. I only see them one at a time and they are only on the bed, nowhere else in the house.

They are about a half a centimeter long, very skinny, black, have segments like an ant but the last segment is really long. They also have black wings but I’ve never seen them fly. They’re really fast so I end up just killing them before I can get a picture.

I’ve checked my kids and had my husband check me for any signs of lice, fleas, etc. Nothing. They look nothing at all like fleas, mites, bed bugs or lice.

I live in Texas if that makes any difference. Any idea what these are or how to kill them? I’m chemically sensitive so any advice on debugging a bed naturally?

I’ve already called the mattress store. It’s one of the major chains who claim to be "experts" if you catch my drift. They said it’s too late for them to help. Maybe something laid eggs that are just now hatching?

I am absolutely terrified of ants?

Posted by admin on January 18th, 2011

So, I just found this can of soda in my room near my window sill. When I went to pick it up, tons of ants came crawling out of the top. So I grabbed the copy of tuck everlasting off my night stand and abruptly covered the top of the can. After that I brought the can outside and chucked it across my yard. When I went back into my house, there were about 10 ants on my window sill. And mind you, these are fairly large ants. As soon as I saw the ants, I immediately burst into tears and made my dad get the bug killing spray and spray my room. So what I am trying to get across here is, I was wondering if anybody had the same fear of ants, If so how do you cope, and I was also wondering if this is a normal fear for a fifteen year old girl. I just want to know how to fix my fears so I can actually get some sleep without the thought of a million ants infesting my ears and crawling in my sheets. Talk about your regular bed bugs! Anyways, help me if you can, please. Thank you.

how do i deal with spiders and silverbugs in my room?

Posted by admin on January 12th, 2011

For some reason its always my room that seems to always attract spiders and these silverbugs in the summertime. Last summer we had to use this " bug bomb?" to like kill all the bugs in my room, and afterwards i saw little baby spiders on the floor and well, just about dead bugs left. This year, i find silverbugs crawling on my walls and spiders from time to time, earlier i found a baby spider on my bed.
ugh, im not totally freaked out about it, but i would like to have a bug free room if its possible.

any help be appreciated thanks.
oh yeah and im assuming that these spiders aare just the usual house spiders, so they’re not harmful.. right?
and what about silverbugs, do they bite?

thanks.
oh yeah and btw, my room isnt all bug infested just so you know.. lol
but i do get several visits from them..

What to do when you've been schemed?

I’m being sued for a floor cleaner and In the contract it clearly stated I could return it in 3 days.I tried to return the product and they had change there number when I tried to call the sales department. Also I was forced in this contract they said they would clean my carpet free and they half cleaned it.Stayed in my home four hours presenting this cleaner and said it would help my kids with there asthma and guess what it didn’t.Say this cleaner kills dust mites and bed bugs etc…This was a miracle cleaner they say! Any way I called the financing company and ask them do they have a number for them and they gave me a number that was a none working number.I called the finance company back and ask them how can I return this product cause my husband had said he didn’t want it and not just that the sales person said I could sign his name until I get a answer from him and if we decided we didn’t want it we could return it. The finance company told me that they didn’t know much about the company and I need to make sure my payments was on time are they was going to garnish my husband wages.I was like I’m calling here today on my second day to return where do I need to send it and they said not to us we just the finance company and we gave the loan to you. What should I do ?

Is this a bed bug? Or one of those book bugs?

Posted by admin on January 6th, 2011

I don’t really know what it looks like because it’s VERY small. (Maybe like 2-3mm? I’m really bad at measuring.)
It’s dark in color.
I think it’s attracted to light because I see it on my laptop screen, gameboy screen, and on white paper.
It has very fast reflexes, it jumps before I have a chance to smoosh it.

I don’t have any rashes like the pictures I see and normally bedbugs are white at this size.
But if it was the book one then I don’t see why it would be on my bed and not in my closet where the books are.
I’ve seen it/them for a few months now but I only see one at a time. The first one was white/clear-I killed it.
The other two were the same size but more blackish. They were easier to kill and made a popping sound when smooshed.

I don’t know how much of this is helpful but I really need to know if this is a problem or not.
Thxx.

How many chemicals does it take to kill bed bugs?

Posted by admin on December 28th, 2010

I just want to know. I thought about tide, rubbing alcohol, lysol, windex, bug spray, etc. I wonder if a combinations of lysol and windex or tide with Clorox beach or any of it could kill them. I also would like to know if washing dark and delicate clothes (as well pinks) with hot water would be a good idea (I usually do that with my whites) because I heard that hot water will kill them. And should I wash my clean clothes just in case? I’d like to know if I should wash my mattress as well as my bed spring and bed frame, cover it up for a year, or to toss it. Anyway, my hair and my skin have been itching for over a week and I stand it anymore. Even if I take a shower, it still itches and it seems like welts and rashes on my body. What should I do to stop the itching? What products should I use to stop the itching of my hair and skin?
