At first I thought they were bedbugs but then one spread its wings & started flying so that ruled that option out. I found each on two separate occasions. I need to know how they got in my covers and what I need to do to get rid of them. I can’t sleep comfortable thinking there might be more somewhere in my mattress.. can anyone help??
Cockroaches don’t fly do they? This bug is as small as a fruit fly. I haven’t woken up with any type of bite that I’ve noticed…
i live in Los Angeles
***the bug might look large in pictures but it’s only around 2.5 millimeters (0.1 inches) like an ant or fruit fly… around that size***
I was looking at the website from the link below…. it looks a lot like a raspberry fruitworm…. I wonder if that’s what it is!
I really appreciate all your help =)

For the past 3 or 4 months,my boyfriend has been getting bit in bed. There little red very itchy bumps all over, but we haven’t seen any bugs. And I’ve never been bit.
Yesterday i found a small flat brown bug on the bedside table.I looked online at some pictures and confirmed it was a bed bug.
I am wondering what to do about them?
First;Do i need to hire an exterminator?
Second;Do i need to buy a new mattress?
Third; Are there any other ways to get rid of this possible infestation?
I was told to lift up the mattresses and vacuum everything around the walls and under the bed, which I am planning on doing today. Is there anything else I can do?
freaky bug found in my bed pretty sure it is NOT a bedbug.. plz help!?

This morning and yesterday my son woke up with what appear to be insect bites. They itch and are red; one was puffy after he scratched it. He is the only one in the house getting these.
So I took the blankets and sheets off his bed and inspected the bedding, mattress, floor and baseboards around the area. I did find one small insect–very small and not like the pictures I’ve seen of bed bugs. It was maybe 1/8 inch long, elongated and brown in color. That was all I could find. I didn’t see any blood or rusty stains on the sheets.
Ugh. I’m almost vomiting here at the thought that there might be bed bugs or something. To my questions:
Can bed bugs be passed by casual contact? We haven’t been anywhere overnight or had any company. My son did get a used stuffed animal that he took to bed with him! (crap) That was a couple weeks ago. Can he pick them up from the kids at school?
If it was bed bugs, wouldn’t I find them on the mattress or sheets or somewhere around the bed? Like I said, it was just that one and it didn’t appear to be a bed bug.
Something is obviously biting him at night. What else could it be, if not bed bugs? What else should I look for for signs of anything?
So I’m going to wash his bedding and vacuum the room really good. What else should I do? Take him to the doctor? Call an exterminator?
Oh, I seriously have the heebie jeebies!
Any thoughts or advice greatly appreciated.
No chickens. We do have a cat that’s strictly an indoor cat. We’ve had him for years and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have fleas, but it’s something to check into. Thanks a lot. I made a doctor’s appointment for tomorrow.
Thought it was a bedbug but it doesn’t look like the pictures?

Several years ago I lived in an apartment in Chicago. I used to find these insects in my apartment. Often I would wake up with rows or small itchy red bites on my legs and arms so I assumed they were bed bugs. I subsequently moved and never saw another for several years. Last month I moved to NY. I was surprised this morning to find one of the same bugs in my apartment. I am wondering what it is. It resembles a very small spider, is reddish brown, hard shelled, has roundish shape with a pronounced lower section, a very small head and walks slowly and in a sort of mechanical way. It doesn’t look like any of the pictures I see of bed bugs. It looks more like a tick and isn’t black or jump like a flea. I don’t have pets and live on the 6th floor of a building. I found this one in my tub. I am no idea how it got there. In Chicago I used to find them, rarely alive, in my bedroom or dining room mostly. I lived in a timber loft and they seemed to hide or live in the wooden beams.

We had a problem with bedbugs last summer, and I thought I got rid of them – after a major cleaning, fumagating, linnen and pillow bagging, covering mattresses with vinyl, etc.
They came back. I’m not the best housekeeper in the world, but we have other bug problem. Our cats and dogs have no fleas. I know these things are bedbugs – I took a close look with a magnifying glass and compared with pictures of the darn things in books.
Will an exterminator get rid of them for good? Any advice, commiseration, war stories will be appreciated!
That’s NO other bug problem.

i need to know if I have bed bugs before I really freak out. I’ve been getting bitten, once last night, once two nights before, a few times a few weeks ago. i assumed they were mosquito bites, but reading up on bed bugs… that’s what they may be. they only itch when i scratch them or my clothes rub up against them, that’s why i put cortizone and covered them with bandaids.
i just vacuumed every inch of my bed, washed the sheets and comforter and pillowcases. i saw a round brown thing on the box spring which looked like the picture of a bed bug (which i never want to see again), but i vacuumed it up. what should I do next? my room is pretty cluttered so i’m working on cleaning it up, i’ve just read horror stories of these things living in the cracks in the floor and the baseboards and stuff. what do i do next? i’m not positive i have them but the signs point to yes. should i get some mattress covers and new pillows? is there even any point? what do i do?

I already did some research, they are NOT bed bugs. It sort of looks like an ant; however, it’s too stout to be one. I have no bites on my body. I just want to find out what these bugs are so I can get rid of them. I have some good pictures of them. If that will help you out, let me know and i’ll send them your way.

Help! I think I have bed bugs!?
Within the past week, I’ve been getting strange bug bites. I looked up pictures of bug bites online today and some of the bed bug ones are exactly like what I have.
So now what do I do? Wash everything? Call an exterminator? I read on one website that I shouldn’t try to sleep somewhere else because they may follow me (I live alone) because I’m their source of food (EW!).
I went out of town last weekend (about 10 days ago) and took my pillow to the hotel. Could I have brought them back with me in my pillow and gotten bit this fast?
Help, I don’t know what to do, I don’t have a lot of money for an exterminator or new mattress (and I’ve heard the new mattress may not even help). And I can’t sleep cause I feel like bugs are crawling all over me! Does anyone know how to get rid of them?
can any1 tell me if i have bed bugs or not? HELP PLZ!?

I have a bite on the back of my thigh that i discovered about 2 days ago, and appears to bulge out a little.
i scratched it and now it has a small scab.
and one on the top of my thigh that appears flat but looks the same.
also another on the back of my knee on my other leg, but it looks nothing like the others, it just looks like a bulge. I discovered it behind my knee on like wednesday at school, and that same day, my best friend also said she had a bite, but i didn’t see it. i found mine while i was in p.e. but i have no idea how i got it, i was wearing skinny jeans. it looks smaller. today is saturday.
i just read that bed bug are found in Springfield Garden Apartments. Where is that? I’m in Southern California.
the bed bite pictures i saw looked like a bunch of bites together, but mine are alone. are these bed bug bites? if not, what are they?
help please :\

I have look up bed bugs and lice pictures and that’s not what these are. I am not getting any bite from them that I have noticed, but I don’t want to sleep with them!! They are long and skinny kind of worm like, they squish easy, and roll in a ball when caught. What might they be? They are tiny, about a millimeter long.
It’s so gross!!
yeah aaaaaarrrgghghh!!!!!, Iv’e been sleeping with these things!!
I’m sleeping on the couch tonight!!
They aren’t sow bugs, I know what those look like. these are about the tenth of the size of a sow bug.
Sri V, your link doesn’t work
I think I figured it out! I forgot to mention I have pets, who have fleas, and my dog sleeps on the end of my bed. I am 99% sure they are flea larvae. Very gross. I am getting my dog some frontline today and bombing my entire house. Thanks for all the help and suggestions!

this morning i woke up with what seemed to be a bump of some sort on my back right along my bra line. it does not itch or burn it’s just sensitive to touch. now it is about four huge bumps that look like welts all together. i do not have any other bites or marks on my body but this really is disturbing. i can’t sleep because im freaking out about these damn bed bugs. i sleep in the same bed as my husband and he has not been bit at all. i looked at a few pictures of bed bugs and i saw only one that was simular because mine is red and puffy. but i have not scratched it at all because again it doesn’t itch it’s just painful.
has anyone had bed bugs before or do you have any advice for me? ANY answers would be great at this point, i just need to stop freaking out!!

**update thank you for comments, but like I mentioned ealier they are not bed bugs (I have been looking at pictures of bed bugs and insects like them, these dont resemble bed bugs). I have been consently washing my sheets, but with no luck with stopping them from appearing on my bed. they must be coming from somewhere else but seem to like fabric (I always find them on my sheets).
Carpet beetle or Bed Bug Larvae?

Ok so Im kindof really freaked out. I have two cats, and for the past couple of nights if been getting itchy spots when I lay down in my bed…and it was only when they were around. So I assumed they had brought fleas in and since its winter they might be hiding out somewhere. So i started to look around to make sure i didnt have a problem and i found and picked up this robe that had fallen down between my bed and the wall, and there were these little larvae all in it. they are REALLY tiny…quite a bit smaller than my pinky nail, and they are cream and dark brown striped…they also look pretty fuzzy. now i look it up and the picture that looked like them said carpet beetles, but im so scared I have bed bugs!! I have like 30 stuffed animals at the end of my bed and i started to look through them and found some more. its creeping my out cause its not like im a dirt person and it seems like they just came out of no where. so what can i do to make sure they are gone for good??? i have no carpet in my house (just wood floor and tile), so the ONLY place they could be is in and around my bed and stuffed animals. im in the process of washing all the stuffed animals, will that kill them?? and how do i make sure they arent in my matress?? please help, this is so disgusting ![]()
the only kind of spray i have to get rid of bugs is ADAMS for my animals…will that kill them??
Are these signs of bed bugs or pubic lice?

I have been feeling itchy down there for about 4 days now, but I have looked many times and there is nothing visibly wrong with my skin. This morning when I woke up, I saw about 6 black dots on my sheets (but not on my pillow case). It’s possible that it was from my cat sleeping on the bed, but I was feeling paranoid so I immediately washed my blankets, sheets, and pillow case.
I was feeling a little better until I went into the shower and looked at my loofah. I hadn’t used it since yesterday, but I was unable to use it today because I realized it had similar looking blackish dots (not really circular shaped but I will call them dots for lack of a better term) on it.
I took a magnifying glass and tried to figure out what they were, but I still couldn’t tell. I couldn’t see any legs or anything indicating bugs. This is the first day any of this has happened. It’s possible that the things on the sheets were from my cats and that the things on the loofah were from the rust in the bathtub, but since I have been having irritation in the genital region (not visible but still not normal feeling), I am paranoid. Please tell me what to do…I looked at pictures of bed bug and public lice online and the photos don’t seem to match up with what I saw.
Bed bugs or something else?

Ok… a few weeks ago I started getting horrible bites at night. After realizing that they weren’t mosquito bites, I started reading and concluded that they are most likely bed bugs. I didn’t see any bugs, even after inspecting my bedroom, until a few days ago… but the bug I saw did not look like the pictures of bed bugs I see online. It is more narrow, and it doesn’t have those horizontal ridges I see in the pics. I trapped one and showed the pest control guy for our apartment, and he said it didn’t look like a bed bug… more like a weevil (which is a pantry pest). I agree, and so does my husband, but weevils do not bite, at least from what I’ve read. So now I’m seeing these little bugs every once in a while, and I don’t know what to do. I don’t really trust this apartment pest guy because he hasn’t even gotten back to me yet (he took the bug so he could research and try to identify it), and that was 4 days ago. I have no peace of mind that this is going to be taken care of, and I can’t even sleep. I want to move away and throw out everything I own. Someone please help me! I’m going insane! Are there different types of bedbugs that look different? I’m on the internet all day every day trying to figure this out.

Hi, I am kind of scared. I don’t know if this is bed bug bite or a mosquito bite. I wake up each morning and I notice that I have a bite or 2 in a random spot on my body. This is not an everyday thing but it happens quite often.
I have 2 bites on my arm, 1 bite on my biceps, 2 bites on my thighs, and 1 or 2 on my other arm. I took a picture of a bite on my thighs and I am not sure if these are bed bug bites or mosquito bites.
It is winter here and lots of snow(Ontario, Canada) and I dunno if there are mosquitoes in this weather.I do have a little crack in my window and I also don’t have a visible infestation on the lining of my bed.
I cover my mattress with my bed sheet and pretty much its tucked in all the way down. I don’t know how a bed bug can crawl out if my bed sheet is tucked in under my mattress (all 4 sides) unless they pierce throw the bed sheet.
I am going to try putting a double sided tape aronnd the edge of my bed and see what happens tommorow morning. Let me know if these are bed bug bites or sumin else?
Thanks

I once saw a small black bug on my mattress which didn’t look like the pictures of bed bugs I’ve seen and also didn’t look like a flea. There is no evidence of bed bugs (no blood stains, no smell, no visible bed bugs), but the bites turn into welts which isn’t typical of fleas. I only get one or two bites at a time, about every other day. I’ve seen small, flat, shiny, dark brown things (almost looks like chips of nail polish) that may be some kind of casing in my bed. What is that???? I’m desperate for help. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
Woke up one night with bug bites, but one week later no signs of bed bugs.?

Ok so last monday morning(june 11th) I woke up with a large number of insect bites on my arms and legs, and in turn had a pretty good amount of swelling due to allergies to whatever caused it. Because of this I proceeded to move my bed to the other side of the room, fully cleaned all sheets and pillows(but did not change the mattress)
Over the last week I have not received any new bites, and have only witnessed two separate insects in my room. One a rounded bug on my arm with tiny wings that i quickly killed and inspected, and didnt seem to resemble a bedbug from pictures online. The other insect was thinner and longer, and had no wings, and looked rather wide towards the mouth, as if it had more developed jaws or something, this was also killed promptly.
Anyone have an explanation as to why i woke up with so many bites in one night, and have witnessed almost no activity over the course of a week?

for the past 3 nights i have noticed small red bumps on my skin. it started in my arm and then over the next 2 nights extended throughout my body: my feet and legs, back of neck, thighs…in other words, just about everywhere. i was looking into it, however i am confused as to if it is bed bugs or fleas that are responsible for these bites…btw, my brother has them too. comparing them to pictures i can’t really tell the difference between both bites so i am not sure what to do now. anybody have advice on how to go about this?
(i have looked around my bed and i have found nothing)
thanks!!!

We had bed bugs in our couch 2 years ago. My wife and I vacuumed and vacuumed over and over until we thought we got all of them. We have not been bitten since that time (mid-2007) or seen a bed bug; we thought we were rid of them. Now we found this bug (I know the picture is not great). It is bigger than any one we have ever found before; I know that bed bugs only grow when they bite, so considering we have not been bitten it seems odd. Is it a huge bed bug or something else?

Hello everyone, I was wondering if you could help me. Just a little while ago I went to change my sheets, and found a tiny bug, that was brown, and looked like it had a reddish/black spot on it’s butt. It was attached to one of my heavier blankets, thankfully it was dead, or perhaps it was the exoskeleton? Could this possibly be a bed bug? The mattress is brand new, the blankets were from my old house, which I know was bug bed free. But the room I’m in right now is usually infested with lady bugs, flies and quite a few spiders too. So could there have been bed bugs in the room before I came? Also I have clothing hanging in my room, and some piled on my floor, if I have bed bugs should I wash all the clothing that is near the bed, also?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I currently have the hibbie Jibbies majorly now. As if all the other bugs weren’t enough. I would have posted a picture but the bug is too tiny to photograph in the baggie it’s in, and I’m not touching it.
Thanks for any help.
I’ve checked wiki and google, I’d just like another opinion, suffice to say, I’m sleeping on the downstairs couch tonight.
I should mention that I’m a teenager, living at home, so moving, spraying isn’t up to me. ![]()
There are tiny, black bugs, like specs, on my brothers bed, hair, etc. Does anyone know what it could be?

I think they are too small to be lice, but I’m not sure. They appear so small that it can be confused with a piece of small black, maybe white lint. I was looking for a picture of lice or bed bugs that weren’t completely magnified, pictures that I could reference to the bugs that we have found.
Flea Bites vs Bed Bug Bites?

I have four cats and my oldest cat who hasn’t worn a flea collar in about 2 months, sleeps with me every night. He cuddles up to me and sleeps right next to me by my head. The other morning I woke up with about 6 bites between my neck and arm pit, and one underneath my chin. I have had flea bites before and they did not look like the ones I had. It has been 2 days and they are already going away. I cleaned my whole room from top to bottom and vacuumed my bed. The bites looked like bed bug bites from the pictures on the computer. Just to be safe, I slept on the couch. My cat slept with me again and cuddled up to me. He slept on the blanket during the day as well. When I woke up, i had 2 bites on my back and 2 on my hip. We put the frontline on him and he was sneezing and itching away. No one in my house is getting bit however. I’m just concerned because the first bites I got looked like bed bug bites but these current bites look like flea bites. What do you think I have? I don’t want to get a new mattress for no reason. When I inspected my bed, I did not see anything! No bed bugs or bed bug cases. When I washed my sheets, my mom said there were remnants of "flea dirt" in the sheets. I’m just a little worried from my initial bites because they did look like bed bug bites. What does everyone think? Thank you!

Common Bed Bug Extermination Prices?
Posted by admin on June 26th, 2009
|
My roommates and I recently discovered bed bugs in our apartment. They seem to only be in one room, and the person in that room is the only one who has been bitten. We believe they came from a sheet set one of us bought that was a returned item at the store, but also open. We found about 10-15 hiding out under the sheets, and disposed of the sheets immediately.
The landlord of our apartment is going to charge us 5-ish to have the exterminators come out and do their thing. Is this a normal price for the service? Should the landlord be paying for this? Since we only have a few, (unlike the pictures we've found online), and gotten ride of most of them, should we call the exterminator ASAP, or try to wait it out?
Opinions
